I purchased take away from Yummy Inn City and it was absolutely wonderful. The best traditional Chinese I have had in Hobart.
I walked in at 12:15am (late night snack) and was warmly greeted by staff while they were on their break.
I was served by the manager whom went out of his way to ensure my taste buds were complemented by each dish by recommending flavours that would not over power each other and that would work well with the style of meal I wanted to try. (I was also asked if I had any allergies to foods as one of the dishes had peanuts in it.)
My order was: Fresh Bean Curd with Preserved Egg (Century Egg).
Sliced Beef & Ox Tongue with Tripe in Chilli sauce.
Steamed Rice.
Pumpkin Pie.
Now to review the food:
Fresh Bean Curd with Preserved Egg. (Century Egg) I started my meal with a big chunk of preserved egg causing my mouth to water, begging me for another bite. The strong yet delicate flavour from the preserved egg was absolutely astounding and was only made better when combined with the silky soft bean curd and the slightly spicy/tangy sauce the dish was bathing in.
The deliciously delicate egg and silky soft bean curd are a truly perfect combination as both just melt in the mouth in synchronous Harmony. (I will definitely order this again)
Sliced Beef & Ox Tongue with Tripe in Chilli sauce. After opening my pallet with the melt in your mouth egg and bean curd, I moved on to some more rigorous textures and flavours with the beef & ox tongue with tripe.
What can I say other than the chef knows how to cook his proteins. The tongue and tripe were so delicate and the flavour combination is very well matched.
(Until today I had never had tongue, so I went in to this dish with a completely open mind.)
I think I have just found my new favourite cold meat to eat in a wrap or sandwich. Good bye lamb & ham, make way for beef/ox tongue.
As I have not had tongue prior to tonight, I can't really offer a comparison....... (However I know my proteins and how to cook them.) This dish being served cold could have been very tough and chewy with the flavour lost........BUT I am glad to say that it was absolutely exquisite. The tongue was so tasty and the tripe was perfectly sliced. This made eating this meal with chopsticks an absolute pleasure and pairing this dish with steamed rice was the perfect partnership to not over power the delicate flavours of the meats and the wonderfully subtle yet intense flavours of the chilli sauce. (Just let the heat of the fresh chilli settle down I'm your mouth and don't be tempted to drink and wash the heat away as the wonderful flavours of the chilli and sauce comes shortly after your mouth adapts to the heat.)
Now for the pièce de résistance...... The Pumpkin Pies.
There is nothing more to say other than absolute perfection!!! They were meant to finish off the meal as a desert but when I took a bite out of this little golden hot, sweet, crispy, puffy and soft nugget of sheer delight, I was very sad to see that I had eaten all 5 of them on the short drive home. (Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of these golden pockets of goodness as I ate them all before I could take a photo.)
My only regret is that I didn't order 20 of them!!!!!! These are very moreish and will sure be the cause of many an argument over who gets to eat the last one. These are a must try delight and as I have a very loving sweet tooth, they were by far my favourite dish of the evening.
My take away culinary experience was one of the best I have had and I dare say it will only get better dining in the very clean and well presented restaurant as the food will come sizzling hot to your table.
Thank you to the manager and staff of the Yummy Inn City for the amazing service and exquisite food. I will be dining at your...

Read moreTo start, the food is okay, it is not too bad but not authentic, it is like American Chinese food, way too sweet to be authentic. But I really hate how the staff were making hostile comments about the customers. There were two tables of customers at the restaurant, the other table ordered Peking Duck, I was bit surprised because it is such a specialty dish, but then I found out it is actually Cantonese roasted duck not Peking duck, and I was chatting with my partner about that, it perhaps somehow irritated the guy in the counter (I think he is either the chef or kitchen hand), as I heard him talking to the waitress in Chinese “of course we have Peking duck, every Chinese restaurant have Peking duck, don’t you even know that? Are you even Chinese? maybe you are too poor and never ate at a restaurant before” I really don’t know what was wrong with him, maybe he had a bad day but he shouldn’t said any of that. On the other hand, the waitress was really...
