Stunning Hobart afternoon to catch up for lunch with a mainland friend. She chose somewhere new to try and we weren’t disappointed!
Great building, followed by warm welcome. Plenty of time given to peruse the menu while we partook in Sunday Spritzes. Hard to choose both drinks AND food from a small but delicious menu!
With a careful eye on the desserts, we settled on the same main meal each - a tasty chicken and pasta concoction with spaghetti, poached and semi shredded chicken, devine bechamel sauce, mushrooms, aparagus and lovely crunch on top. Great bowls for eating pasta from and food was the perfect temperature.
Service was attentive and amusing - we loved the excitement from the staff to share their menu, so much so that we were offered some fresh Bruny oysters as a side (on the house!). They were served with an experimental magnolia vinaigrette which had a pleasant meaty flavour combined with the oysters.
Dessert couldn’t be denied so we chose one of each - an apple crème brûlée for my friend and a very decadent chocolate mousse for me. Both super tasty and a great full stop to the meal.
We took our time and chatted lots. The atmosphere was casual, and a little bit funky. We decided the food was an inspired combination of French/Euro/Asian influences. All the ingredients were fresh and local to Tassie. The seats were comfy for a generous bum and there was no problem splitting the bill at the end.
Thanks guys! Will definitely...
Read moreWe had lunch there today. Nice fit out for sure and watching the 'front' being built and then inside was great. Nice and cosy inside the place was busy. From there on it was kind of meh. Nice french rosè once aired was nice. Steak frites ($40) was ok. As mentioned several times when asked " how us everything" the answer was " could have been hotter". The Baked Brie ($20) was the same. Could have been hotter. Both dishes were by the end of the meal was cold. Cold steak. Pass and some gristle in the porterhouse was disappointing. Service was attentive, but after our shared meal we sat and waited for a while waiting to order dessert. No one asked. We left st that point. All these things were mentioned perhaps 2 or 3 times and to be honest no one seemed to care. The gift Medallion is a great idea and the place has lots of little different spots to eat and even outside when the weather is warmer. Early days and hopefully these comments will help things get better. Oh, the trying to book online experience was horrible. (Mentioned) If there was anyone from management on the floor we never saw them.. 3 menus. Breakfast, lunch and dinner.( frid -Sat) open 7 days a week. A lot to take on and lets hope things get...
Read moreHi team, if you want this cafe to succeed, a few things need to change.
We arrived and were ignored for five minutes, despite it not being particularly busy. We were eventually seated at the table we booked, but it was filthy - my husband cleaned it with his napkin. We then ordered two coffees (a strong flat white and a piccolo), and received two flat whites, one of which the waitress spilled into the saucer. My son then ordered a home-made, organic lemonade, but out came a Schweppes - understand if you ran out of the brand you advertised, but couldn’t a better alternative be procured? I’m sure you can get decent lemonade at Woolworths.
The toasties the kids ordered were fine, but the meals my husband and I had were small (fine in principle), but also extremely bland. My French toast was cold and flavourless.
Sorry, I really didn’t want to leave this review as I’m sure you are trying, but a lot of things went wrong on our first visit, so we won’t be...
