A beautiful display of a wide assortment of Indian sweets with excellent service. They also serve Indian food both dine in and take away however i must admit I only came to get sweets so can’t comment on their food dishes. I tried sone jelabi hot off the pan, jelabi hot off the pan is another level and can never compare to the one sitting on display from the day before. They were very busy at a time which should be a quiet time on a Sunday morning so they must be doing something right. Even with the rush the staff were extremely polite courteous and efficient (I was served by Serap, assuming that I didn’t mishear her name). Out of interest I read some of one star reviews. My two cents there. Understand that India (read Indian sub continent ) is a large place with a wide variety of cuisines and dishes and a huge variety of regional specialties. I have been brought up on a Bangladeshi sweet palate so no Indian sweet place can compare to the Bengali style rashgolla or chom chom or the misti doi, so I will set myself up for disappointment if it expect it at any Indian sweet shop. Or if you talk about biryani, everyone swears by their regional variation. To me a properly kacchi biryani (yes it does actually have potatoes) is the only real biryani. Finding it at any Indian restaurant is an absolute rarity so I never expect that. And never expect a restaurant cooked meal to compare to a real Indian home cooked meal. That’s been a very rare experience for me, I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve had food at an Indian restaurant overseas that tasted better than a home cooked meal at our...
Read moreI have been a regular customer with Bikaner sweets many years now. They have a minimum $10 eftpos policy, which is fine. Every time I order something less than $10 ,just to make it up I always buy extras for another $10-$15 snacks to take home which is not really necessary. But I still do. Yesterday I ordered food which was $7.50 but I was reminded of $10 minimum policy else I have to pay cash. Whole world is avoiding cash at the moment due to coronavirus and to avoid infection everyone is accepting payments by cards. Restaurant should consider to accommodate their customers in this hard time by accepting payment through cards. It’s not hard. But the owner has given strict instructions to staff for not accepting cards below $10 May be because they have to pay a fee of $20 cents to the bank for transactions below $10. C’mon be realistic and see how many people in Victoria are sick with this Virus. Show some courtesy towards your customers. Staff are all great and helpful , it’s just the owner who needs to act mature and look into the safety of their staff and customers by accepting...
Read moreOne of many Indian options at Little India Dandenong. We have been at Bikaner Sweets many times over the past few years and today is the chance to do a food review,
Navratri is underway so we chose vegetarian options. Ordered papri chat for starters, daal makhani and shahi paneer with roti and naan.
Papri chat serving was large with good amount of papri, the yoghurt was bit watery and not many potatoes and chickpeas. Flavour was just right though. 3.5 out of 5.
For mains, Makhani daal was brilliant, right amount of spice and not overdone with cream or oil which was very welcome. Serving size was large.
Shahi Paneer looked more tomato based rather than cashew/ cream sauce, but it was tasty. Couple of extra paneer pieces would have been good, understand you get what you pay for. 4/5.
Both Tandoori roti and Naan were cooked well and were of good size, really enjoyed them. 5/5.
So if you happen to be near Dandenong, do give the Bikaner folks a try for lunch or dinner. Good vegetarian choices with plenty of Indian sweets to spoil yourself and the family.
Good value for...
