St Kilda Grocery Bar — Restaurant in Melbourne

The food is not the worst. It's edible, and that's the only half decent thing about this place. The coffee, on the other hand, one sip and all three of us left our coffees full and could not drink them, they were horrible!

The service... there were multiple older people in line in front of us. They were greeted nicely, with a smile and a warm welcome. We got to the counter to order and were asked what we wanted in a somewhat apathetic tone. This isn't a big issue, I get that, but it gets worse.

After one of us ordered and sat down, the next person ordered and thought we were doing take away, we quickly told her have here, she turned to the person serving her and said "sorry, have here please", the older lady serving her went from no emotion on her face and speaking with an apathetic tone to an angry face and just plain rude.

I'm not sure how changing your mind before even ordering makes a difference to how the service should be, but it was so rude and aggressive that we were contemplating asking for a refund and going elsewhere.

The only reason we did not ask for a refund and leave was that we did not want to be treated even worse than we already were.

Edit: after reading the owners response I am even more confused about the "three coffees" as only two people ordered, I couldn't order after how rude she was. And the "matched energy" I would love an elaboration on this. In future, I would suggest review replies be in response to the reviewer and not talking about said reviewer.

Please note, I hate being the bad guy and definitely don't want to give bad reviews where they are...

Came in on the first Tuesday of the year & left so disappointed. Their coffee was excellent but definitely not The food. The service was kind.

I choose this place because their prices were more reasonable than the places around but do yourself a favor and pay the extra couple of dollars for better prepared food!

Ordered the Magic Mushies, I don't usually mind waiting for food but not for something so unappetizing. The meal was supposed to come with beetroot hummus and they must have been running out because what I got was the tiniest spread. It made the sesame seed bread that was served on unbelievable dry and so inedible. Not nearly enough food but they tried with giving you tons of that bread. I also ordered a side of hollandaise & it was the tiniest side I've ever received!

You go to a restaurant for delicious food & what I received here was...

I was asking for my reciept after i made my payment because i would like to check the price of the item but the old lady who serve us told me that it will take her a couple mins to print it out . (The shop was not busy and we are only customers waiting at the couter) so I politely said it is alright. I can wait . Then the lady made such a big deal out of it that I should have asked it before making a payment .

I not really put a bad review on where I go cause I also work in the hospitality industry.

I'm not asking anything extra. Just ask what my right to ask for, and also, it is her job to ask if I would like a receipt

Apart from that, coffee was good.

Edited... I believed the lady who served us is an owner after I read the reply on other reviews, haha. I think you should hire someone to do the job if you are not good at...
