Butler's Smokehouse — Restaurant in Melbourne

Utterly upset by the way I was treated by the lady who took my order! I don’t know if this place hires people without any prior training on customer service?! Never have I been treated like this anywhere else in Australia! Went here yesterday for dinner after returning from the park with kids, 1 - I gave the order and looked like the lady didn’t know to properly operate the computer as I had to cancel 2 burgers and change it to something else and she couldn’t do it so started shouting from where she was to the back of the kitchen to where the other lady was in some other language complaining that she’s unable to cancel and got no response from her but she somehow managed and the order process was done. We initially decided to do a dine in.

2- as my kids were acting up coz the food was taking quite long and as they were just after the park so hungry and tired naturally so I decided for the benefit of everyone to do a take away and so had to go and mention it to that lady to change it to a takeaway which I believe is not a big thing as my food was still being prepared.

3 - I completely forgot to mention to cut the 2 burgers into half (which we do almost everywhere we go as the kids find it easier that way to have the burgers) so I took the burgers and went to the counter to tell that same lady to please cut it in half and she started at me, and absolutely gave me NO RESPONSE or acknowledgement but smiled sarcastically thinking - “what’s wrong with this lady?” And there I am waiting at the counter with both my burgers on the counter not knowing if it was going to be done or what?!!! She then talks in some other language to the other girls back in the kitchen to apparently do it for me and she was extremely RUDE with her facial reactions and looked so annoyed and then this other girl came and took the burgers and went and cut them in half and brought it back and I kindly accepted and thanked her which I shouldn’t have considering how I was treated!!! This is absolutely unacceptable behavior! Atleast a “yes sure we’ll do” or “please wait it’ll be done” response ?!!! We have got our burgers cut in half in soooo many bigger burger chains even in Melbourne CBD and what does this place think of them??! Utterly ruined my experience here!

But then again, the burger was really good as my kids really loved them the chicken quality and flavour was on point! But I’m utterly disappointed at their...

Ordered some food for pick-up for dinner today. This was the first time my family of 4 ate food from here.. and it was INCREDIBLY A-MAZING!!!!! The burgers were something else! LOL. The kids burger was quite large. My 7 year old loved it. But couldn't finish it.

The remaining burgers we split 3 ways for the rest of my family so we could taste them all. And this was what we thought about them.

►"The Wild West Burger" with bacon & egg was my MOST favourite out of all of them. It was also my husband's MOST favourite!

►"The Sherriff's Choice" with BBQ & Mushroom was my Mother-in-law's MOST favourite. She was thrilled with the flavours as she loved the sweet bbq sauce.

►"The Gun Smoke" with beetroot, was very delightful as well... but would be our 3rd fav. if we were judging out of the 3 of them. But to be honest if this would kill all other burgers from any other burger shop. lol.

FRIES: We had the plain large fries. All of us thought they were very good.

WINGS: We had the "Smokey Buffalo Wings". And just as a warning... they were quite spicy! So for those sensitive people out there, be careful. However, for those who LOVE spice with no problem like my husband, it's not too spicy at all. lol.

Next time, I'd like to try this with a dipping sauce though.

And lastly, "THE ONION RINGS". They weren't too bad... but, there weren't many for sharing. And next time I think I'll try out one of the loaded fries in replacement of these to try out.

Overall, it was very pleasant.. and the workers were very kind & sweet. I will definitely visit again. And if you're looking for a new flavour, it's deifnitely worth trying out.

Also, it's not exactly easy to get a parking spot... but if you get there a bit early around 5:00-5:30 - before the 6:00 rush dinner time you can catch a good parking space off of Londsdale St.

It's literally on the very corner of Londsdale & Clow. The last shop at the end. Easy to find once you are there. If you've read this far, thank you... and you're welcome! lol.

Came to Butler's today having driven past many a time, seen the sign and thought I'd give the BBQ Joint in dandy a go. Got here, looked at the menu, saw it was Burgers, Wings & Dogs, no smoked goodness to be found.

I decided then on the Gun Smoke, Double Beef, Double Cheese, Cos, Ajvar, Beetroot Mayo, Smoked Paprika Kale Slaw. Brioche Bun, without seeds.

Sitting, waiting for my burger, drinking my Holstein Grape (place is Halal) checking out the nice mural work. On proud display is Coles Brand Chocolate, Strawberry, & Caramel Toppings for their Shakes. With another proud display of Coles Brand Special Burger & Smokey BBQ Sauces. I agree, these sauces are pretty bomb, but don't tell your customers you're using store bought special sauces... home brand at that. It's not a good look.

My burger arrives, I've drunk most of my soda. (They did have a mini rush, so fairs fair). The patties, thin & dry. Not enough fat in the mince. The beetroot Mayo is overpowering. The Ajvar, a subtle flavour at best, not to be tasted. (Seriously though, if you haven't tried Ajvar on a burger, bun, Ajvar, Patty, Cheese, do it.) The bun tasted old. The cheese, well we all know what American burger cheese tastes like. Could pick up a slight smokiness from the smoked paprika, so that was pleasant.

The chips came out warm, not piping hot, indicating they hadn't been freshly cooked. They had a "possible store bought" seasoning on them. The chips where almost sweet.

Would I come back? With the Pav basically next door, Cultural Commons, and Double'D down the road in Springvale. No, I will...
