Curtin House — Restaurant in Melbourne

The rooftop is a nice place but it's hard to find a seat (not just a table) on the weekends so expect to be standing for a long time; the good thing is there's a bar there so one can enjoy some drinks while waiting unless you don't mind having your burger standing.

The view isn't amazing but the open air experience makes the place special.

The downstairs bar restaurant also has private chambers not strictly "for dining" but if one give up on getting seated at the rooftop, this is also an option. Or they can move to the smoking area which is also in the open air with plenty of tables.

The music house downstairs is a bit small but it's okay because it doesn't get so packed until late hours and it's not so hard to find a table (if needed). I noticed that the management turned off the AC too early so it was really hard to breathe as the place started to get busy and many people started to leave.

The elevator was shut down so one has to take the stairs all the way up to the rooftop and for some of my mates it was like "mission impossible" but if one's healthy, fit and don't smoke and often work out it shouldn't be a problem.

Most of the staff are friendly but some of the security are rude so it's better...

We were kicked out for taking photos with flash on (in the dark) and for taking a hit from a vape. Fair enough for the vape thing but it wasn’t a warning — we were just kicked out… OF THE BUILDING! Could or could not be racially motivated (we’re Asians, I still don’t want to assume) because one white male staff in particular was annoyed at us the moment we walked into the restaurant (he also kicked us out). Someone chased us after when we went to the bathroom before leaving just to kick us out (she was nice, no complaints about her). We talked to people while going downstairs who found this treatment very odd, so it could be true. I don’t want to assume it is the same for all people of the establishment but I am never going back here. Shame.

Additional details: he was very rude from the start and literally said “seeya” while taking our water?? We were kicked out pretty early while several people were still sat down

Looking at this review again years later and reviews by other people, this place definitely has a large amount of racist staff! Ridiculous. I doubt anything is being...

I've never had the inclination to leave an online review, but my experience at Curtin House was absolutely abhorrent. Never in my life have I met such unwelcoming, rude and condescending staff in my life. We were told to "shut the f--- up" by a young lady working at the venue because we asked her where we could sit. The same girl yelled at us to go and sit down because she didn't like our energy? When I politely asked what we had done wrong she just kept repeating that our energy was bad, and did not entertain our desires to resolve the matter. Strange experience to say the least, especially as I have had many positive experiences at this venue...
