Gami is one of the pioneer in modernising the traditional Korean food and bring different flavour and creative idea to enter the Melbourne market. It was started in 2006 in Carnegie, now they have got more than 10 branches around the Melbourne.
They have successfully secured the signature dish of Korean Fried Chicken in Melbourne as we've heard many people using Gami's KFC as the benchmark to compare the taste of the Korean Fried Chicken in other places.
They had the same look and feel of interior design across all the branches. The main color used to decorate the restaurant was yellow and black to represent their original logo. The look and feel of the restaurant was modern, happy funky and young.
The vibe and atmosphere in this restaurant was really great and had great time here. The customer service was nice, speedy and attentive.
There were 5 of us and we ordered : 2 sets / portions of Boneless Chicken with all their available dipping sauces (honey mustard, sweet chili, soy garlic, spicy). (A mix of breast and thigh fillets ~ 750g.) with 2 dipping sauces.Had opportunity to try all dipping sauces as we ordered 2 sets. They gave a generous portion of fried chickens and dipping sauce. Fried chicken was well fried served hot, tasty, crispy and crunchy; It was well seasoned and balance taste, not forget to mention that this would be much much better and perfect when you drizzled the KFC using their homemade dipping sauce **BIG THUMBS UP!! Our favourite were the soy garlic and sweet chili. Not that the honey mustard and spicy were bad, but everyone had different taste. We would say that all dipping sauces were great, so you couldn't go wrong using any dipping sauces.
Japchae (sweet potato noodles stir-fried with mushrooms, chicken and vegetables in sweet soy sauce) for $12.00. The Japchae was well cooked including all the mushrooms and vegetables. They didn't overcook, it was just right and well seasoned. It wasn't the best Japchae that we've ever tried before but the taste was absolutely above the average. It wasn't too oily either which made this one better.
This wasn't the first time we had Gami, we came here couple times and they did pretty well, very consistent. Overall, we had a great time having lunch and successfully indulged our tummy to the max with their KFC. You would spend approx. between $16.00 - $20.00 per person, but definitely it would satisfy your tummy.

A local Melbournian recommended the Korean Fried restaurant Gami for some fried chicken and snacks. It seemed very popular with a gather of people waiting to get a table at the small restaurant of Gami. This would be a great venue for some food before a good night out.
Complimentary radishes and prawn chips accompanied our Gami House Lagers ($4 for 300ml). The chips brought back many childhood memories. For entrée, I ordered the corn cheese which essentially corn with cheese on a sizzling plate for $9. I am a corn lover and naturally loved the simple combination of cheese and corn. It was a sweet corn combination with more savoury flavours of cheese. It can become a bit rich so I suggest you share this dish.
The highlight of the night took it’s time to get to the table. It was really crowded and busy but I was getting a bit impatient after waiting an hour. The hight light was the full order of chicken split between the original chicken and the glazed soy garlic chicken . We were also tossing up ordering the spicy chicken but glad we didn’t when we saw the table next to us barely touching their spicy chicken.
The original chicken was not bad. It’s probably on par with KFC. The chicken pieces were more about the skin rather than large chunks of chicken. The taste was definitely in the garlic soy chicken. It was highly flavoursome and just very easy to eat. It was a party in my mouth. I’d recommend the garlic soy chicken, a full serve ($34) should happily be eaten by 3 girls.
Overall, I’d recommend trying Gami, early if you can to avoid the crowds. Order some house lagers, enjoy the corn and order the Soy...
Read moreInitially asked for a place here but the waitress said there wasn’t any as they were limiting entry due to Covid. I told her we’re willing to wait or come back later but she refused. Anyway a table cleared up outside 2 min later so they cleared the space for us there and we ordered. We waited for an hour outside and our food still had not been served. I went in to ask and apparently our order didn’t go through. I asked if we could order again as we were EXTREMELY hungry at this point and did not care if we had to wait a bit longer but she told us that the dish we wanted can’t be served outside. We asked if she could make some space for us inside now cause we’ve legit been waiting in the cold for an hour and came specifically to try that dish but she refused. We left after that, did not appreciate her attitude at all. Anyway used to love this place but sadly will never be coming here again after such a terrible experience. Your food is good but your staff needs to be more accommodating...
