This is my go to sushi train as i live close by. It is mid range and experience is luck of the draw / dependent on the time you visit as well as staff rostered on.
Lovely deco, nice and quiet when not too many people around, food is mid range priced. More often than not, there is sufficient food going around on the train.
Three issues with this place:
ordered food can take quite a while to come out
staff, while pleasant, are not well trained - 4 out of 5 times I did not get my free miso soup (not the end of the world). The young ones cannot seem to identify cash / count coins and I was told they don't have any 5c pieces so he short changed me. Once again, not the end of the world but this is what I mean by staff is not properly trained - they should cop the difference, not me.
their so called loyalty program is one huge mess. There is no way of tracking it, there is no record of where I am at and there is no information of what do you earn / redeem. It is so painful that I don't even bother anymore.
I would still recommend due to convenient location, decent food and decent price. Staff, I will not be putting my money on.
p/s: watch the plate counting - sometimes they over/under count - it is not a deliberate attempt to 'cheat' anyone but more lack of training /...
Read moreHad high expectations and went in for lunch. Sadly the sushi was well below par. Where to even begin, the sushi rice was undercooked and super chewy and absolutely ruined the texture of the nigiri and sushi rolls. The fish cuts were tiny in proportion to the rice and I felt I was being ripped off with every order. What's worse is the sushi chef was south asian and she didn't clean the fish or separate the bones from the nigiri cuts properly. I had 2 long sharp bones in my unagi rolls which sliced the inside of the mouth as when you eat sushi you expect the fish to be boneless. I reported this to the waitress who took it to the chef and her response was "we can't do anything about it, it's precooked" , what even????. When asking for the bill, I requested to not be charged for the unagi roll because of the bones in my dish which made me spit out almost all the sushi. The waitress accepted but still somehow messed up on the calculation. The bill was expensive and I have a habit of checking my bill before leaving. Sure enough I caught the mistake of being overcharged and reported it to the waitress. I was given cash back for this. Overall, a very bad experience and I don't think I'll return here because the sushi and the prices are...

Timeout recently crowned Ganbare Kaz "The Best Sushi Train in Melbourne," but I have to say, my experience was just so-so.
While the sushi train itself is clean and the menu offers a decent variety, I was disappointed by the lack of premium cuts like fatty tuna.
For true nigiri sushi enthusiasts, there are definitely better options out there. On the flip side, the menu, though small, features decent renditions of classic nigiri like salmon, tuna, and kingfish.
Overall, my visit was just okay. While I expected more from a restaurant hailed as the "best," Ganbare Kaz simply didn't deliver the premium sushi train experience I was hoping for. Wish they have more selection for premium cut and I will come back to visit
It's a decent option for a casual bite, but not quite the top contender I was looking for. You can say it is nori what I...
