I have been to the Wolf a handful of times and not had a negative experience, however last night I was racially profiled by the security guards (30 July 2023 just before midnight). I arrived to the line with my friend, and the female security guard said, “when was the last time you’ve been here?” I explained I have only been a few times and she said “last time you were here you caused some trouble” which was confusing as I have never had an issue. I explained I didn’t know what she was referring to and she said “you are not coming in” so I left the line and walked away perplexed as I have never been kicked out or caused any issues in the venue. As I was walking away I began to understand what was happening, so I calmly walked back to the entrance, to the side and approached another security guard and explained that I am not challenging her decision to enter the venue and that she might be referring to another person or she is racially profiling me because another African person has caused some problems in the venue, or potentially the venue is doing this to people of different ethnicities as an instruction from management. Additionally, she didn’t even scan my ID or check who I was, she instantly assumed I had caused trouble in the venue. I would like to thank the security guard off the line, who listened to me and heard what I had to say. He did say “I work with her and she is not racist” which is clearly not the case, from the other reviews I have read online to see if anyone else has had a similar experience. The security guard on the side then further investigated, and a security guard from inside came outside and instantly confirmed that I was not the person who had caused an issue in the venue. Instead of apologising, the female security guard said “it’s okay you can come in” which is extremely insensitive and asinine, especially after I had explained I didn’t want to go in and was visibly upset. I will add, the third security guard outside would not even speak to me. I can identify all three security guards and will be doing so in my next actions, if required. This is the first time I have had something like this happen to me, and to say I am furious is an understatement. There is either a problem with the security guards or the instructions from management, and I will be finding out which one is true. It is lucky this has happened to me because I am now feeling okay about the incident, however the reason I came back to rationally speak to the guards and I am taking action now is because this should not happen again and no one else should experience this at this venue, in fact anywhere. If I don’t highlight this on a large scale the security guards on the door will continue to do this. This should not happen anywhere and if all that the venue does is issue a ‘copy and paste’ response, that just doesn’t cut it. I have discussed this with multiple people, and the consensus is, this needs to be called out and an example needs to be made of this because enough is enough. I called the venue and received no response; however, I will provide the venue with appropriate time to respond, and if the response is not appropriate, I will then take this horrible experience and share this story with media outlets, in addition to exploring any outcomes related to...
Read moreI would probably avoid this place if you’re not white unless you want to get racially profiled and discriminated by the bouncers (thugs).
I went there for the first time with my colleagues following a work event (didn’t even want go to be honest but didn’t want to let my colleagues down). Most of my colleagues went there right away, some with drinks in their hand and clearly VERY drunk.
Me and two others, who had very little to drink I may add, decided it would be more responsible to get some food before we go in and we did so in a restaurant near by. After a sit down meal, we decided to queue up at this pub.
As with every other place, had our ID’s ready and everything. My first colleague was in front and the bouncer checks the ID and let’s him through, then I hand him my ID, he looks at it and then pushes me (unprovoked and unnecessarily) toward the pavement to another bouncer who said that I’ve had too much to drink and that I am “wobbling”, to which I replied in sheer confusion “errr I don’t think mate I just had a sit down meal?”… He let my other colleague through as well. If I was too drunk why bother looking at my ID to establish my name or whatever, you can just refuse before you ask for that?
I was the only brown person there and the responses to why I’ve not been let in was poor excuses about how apparently drunk and wobbly I was. I have a feeling management has some sort of brown quota or anti brown bias and have trained these thugs to not let many brown people through. It was really frustrating and extremely upsetting that this still happens in 2023 and this is the first time I’ve ever felt like this in my life and left a real sour taste of what Australia is like relative to the my home (UK) where I’ve never come across this type of obvious racial profiling and racist aggression.
I kid you not, there were tonnes of white kids wobbling and absolutely hammered and they all got in.
I said good bye to my colleagues and left but I felt very emotional at how I was treated. I came back to have on record what this place was called and the people that had treated me this way and filmed from the pavement (a public place) on what the public can clearly see. To clarify there are no laws in place in Australia and Victoria which prohibits filming in public places especially things which are clearly visible to the public from a public place. I took a video of the pavement and the racist thugs in question. One of them was really aggressive for whatever reason (to satisfy his power hungry ego for having made bad life choices I imagine) and started shoving his phone camera to my face and pushed me aggressively. I told him to stop harassing me, I am not doing anything illegal nor was I causing them any trouble.
I sent a management an email to which I received no response so I think it warranted a review on Google.
I would avoid this place if you are not white. Not worth the emotional damage to be fair. Reminds you pretty heavily that racism is still rampant and you can be profiled and abused if you’re not white.
Photos of the thugs in question attached. Sadly I was unable to take a photo of the most aggressive of them all due to his aggression but I have a picture of the little short thug from the back, quite easily...
Read moreSave your time, money and sanity and do not visit this place. Completely sexist guards who want people to pass out inside so that they can stand around outside doing nothing in the fresh air.
After having danced in the busiest crowd for over an hour, I grabbed some water and went to the entry door to get some air to breathe. I was stopped at the door by the guards and was REFUSED to exit the building because I had water in my hand! I skulled my water and handed them my cup so I would be allowed out.
Once I’m finally outside, I sit down on a bench. I am then immediately FOLLOWED by the guards and told that I am not allowed to sit down?! I am told that I can “go down there” as the guard points to a dodgy corner, three buildings away, also with no seat. My other option was to apparently go BACK inside, to trek for 5 minutes through the busy crowd to the back of the building, walk 2-3 flights of stairs and then sit in the SMOKERS section upstairs.
I told the guard that I simply need some air, water and to sit down given how crowded and boiling it was inside. The guard could not care less.
Given I was being treated so poorly, I decide to go back inside to get my friend so we can leave this place. I am then REFUSED entry to get my friend because of my “attitude”. Of course I am going to stand up for myself for not being allowed to exercise my basic human rights. Not once did they mention that I was drunk or disorderly, hence not a risk to any other patron, and absolutely no reason to refuse me to collect my friend.
Not only this, I then look down to see THREE men sitting on the bench I was sitting on, however, apparently the rule of no-sitting no longer applies if you are a man.
Inhumane, repulsive behaviour. I would hate to think how people are treated if they are drunk and/or require some medical attention in an emergency. Will tell everyone I know about this and will never...
