When making dinner plans and craving good hawker-style dishes, this is a great place. Built for takeaway and speed, Express Lane still has a couple of tables to sit in and enjoy what is consistently good Vietnamese food not far removed from their old original location.
Although it's taken me some time to post, I was a massive fan of their $25 soup series back in August when they did four soups in four weeks to support Scarf (a social enterprise using hospitality to transform lives), I post this now in the hope that they do something similar to this again soon!
Not a place usually housing a special, the Spicy Chicken & Prawn Wonton Noodle Soup hit all the right notes in terms of flavour and I look back and crave this hot bowl of delicious dumps and noods even now. Having dined at both Hanoi Hannah Vol II and here, this is probably one of my favourite dishes I've had.
I also like that you can pimp their pho but get concerned re. value for money when their dishes will already set you back $22-$24 before the card and weekend surcharges.
I feel that to truly be an express version of their staple restaurant with the cheap and fun atmosphere it seems to want to be, there should be leniencies in price and/or size ranges. It's only now I realise how good a deal the $25 soup series was!!
If sending noods ain't so much your thing, the rice dishes are hearty and the Lemongrass Chicken Curry was creamy and a great...
Read moreRude girl with blonde shaved head at the counter wouldn’t accept cash for a lunch order, despite it being legal tender and an offense NOT to accept it. Order was nearly $80 and had the cashier wince when I attempted to hand 2 x $50 notes over, only to be told that Hanoi Hannah “do not have the facilities to accept cash”. It might be your preferred method, but it is not legal to turn away Australian Currency.
The restaurant was empty, the chefs standing around and it was 12pm on a Monday when the restaurant would usually be packed and rather than serve me you turned away a paying customer. What you are doing is illegal, discriminatory and despicable and a complaint will be filed with the relevant authorities as this kind of behavior won’t be tolerated.
I was a long standing patron at Hanoi Hannah and it’s sister restaurants but instead will give my business to other locally owned businesses like Nguyen’s Hot Bread on Chapel Street around the corner from Hanoi Hannah (plus their spring rolls, Pho and Bahn Mi are MUCH fresher).
I sincerely hope that covid shuts arrogant operators like this down, because there’s good businesses out there worth supporting that don’t discriminate against patrons or turn patrons away for...

🍗 Chicken Ribs 🥩 Lemongrass Beef Stir Fry Noodles 🦆 Peking Duck Rice Paper Rolls 🍤 Prawn Spring Rolls
Hanoi Hannah’s Express Lane is located in Windsor just off Chapel St. It is their most casual venue, serving up a hawker-style Vietnamese menu with some modern twists. A mostly takeaway restaurant but there are a few tables to dine inside! 🇻🇳
It has most of the classics you love, pho, soups, vermicelli salads, stir fry’s, spring and rice paper rolls. Banh mi are also available at lunch time only. 🥖
My favourite dish was the Chicken Ribs, they were charred well from the bbq, moist and just really cooked well. The Prawn Spring Rolls were crunchy and very tasty. 🍤
The Spicy Lemon Noodles were slightly sweet and refreshing. The beef is so thin and tender, however the ratio was off - too much noodles not enough meat.
The Peking Duck Rice Paper Rolls didn’t have a lot of flavour but were nice with the sauce. 🦆
A fantastic quick, casual meal option. Would...
