Hooked Best Fish and Chips Windsor — Restaurant in Melbourne

HOW, during this time of the 'cost of living crisis', and where most of us who don't actually own a home, in this area..and never could, are struggling, could we ever afford to eat here!?? As a couple, or single, let alone a family!!? $5.95 - Chico/spring rolls/banana fritters!!... $2.30 - potato cakes and dim Sims!! $10+ ..for a piece of fish. I was so excited, after craving F' n' chips all weekend, to actually find one open on a Monday, and only a few blocks away. But, then I saw the prices!! 😭😭😭 A neighbour got some chips from here the other day, and generously gave us dome. They were SO good, not oily, and not wrecked with chicken salt, that I've been hanging to actually get some fish and potato cakes, ever since. I guess that's not an option for us at the moment though...unless we win the lotto. I know it's a 'ritzy' area compared to many other places, but I worked in this industry for over 2 years, until last year, and literally ordered everything, as well as cook and serve, etc. When we and so many other places can manage to do it for 2/3rds-half the price even....I can't work it out. Is there an (anti)-'special' price list, for being open on Mondays, since most F'n'Chips places aren't ? That's not a rhetorical question..I'm just trying to have a lol, so I don't actually cry! 😅 They do make good F'n'Chips, don't get me wrong, and are lovely owners..... but the...

We have been ordering at hooked for over 3 years, and now suddenly they have stopped serving chips and replaced them with hot soggy garbage. Please update the name of your restaurant accordingly. That might sound harsh but trust me, the first edit was alot worse, I only changed it as I saw the other negative reviews with the same complaint. Just to pre-empt the excuses, if you truly did switch to fresh chips as opposed to frozen chips, then you need to fire the staff on your deep fryer or whoever made these 'fresh chips'.

Edit, response to owner. No you haven't, these are completely different chips to what we have ever had before and you actually said that these are new chips on a previous comment! Why would you bother replying to this review if you are just going to attempt...

This is the third time. I am a customer who coming here regularly. it is amazing that you giving me a virtual middle finger by giving me this food. . I asked you golden chips. you have confirmed you will give me golden chips. means no brown and burned chips. means less frying. make it 1-2 min less frying. ask for training. its easy, simple, common! frying chips is the simplest task you can do. Please don't tell me that the chips is like that. what are these? are these for eating or for decoration? Remove the rubbish, remove them if they are not look good.

Attention to the manager. mate! what are you doing? what your job? train your employee. mate, wake up. stop it. stop it.
