When you walk in you're immediately welcomed by staff were dressed well and displayed warm and friendly character. Menu was a good size, easy to read and prices were reasonable for the quantity and quality of food, by the end of the mains you could comfortably fit in desert. House chardonnay was a bit too sharp for my liking however it did the job. Service was fast with a minimum waiting time between meals. Entrées were calamari and muscles, both were full of flavour. Mains were the lobster and tiger prawns, both were full of flavour and were succulent. Deserts were the chocolate mousse and a strawberry sable stack, once again, full of flavour. Seating arrangements were adequate, each table being just far enough that you weren't disturbed by other patrons, however the tables themselves could've been a little bit bigger. Heating and lighting was adequate and the music volume was fine however the choice of music should be changed to suit the environment, not playing depressing love songs for example... I'm sure the music list was on shuffle. Recommended for a nice night with...
Read moreWe had my birthday at Hooks with all the children and grand children on Sunday. It was such a pity that the presentation was non existent. No table cloths, cutlery and serviettes in a tub. The food was very slow to come and some guests had half finished their meal before others were served. The prices are too high for the venue, it didn't feel like we were eating in a restaurant but rather in a cheap Chinese place you find on Swanson Street where all the students eat at less than half the price. The menu was very mixed but not Asian enough, only the starters were Asian. The food served was mostly good except for the 3 scallops at $16.50 which were tasteless and looked very unappetizing. The position of Hooks is lovely, looking out on the river. Attention to detail would benefit the restaurant and also Yarra's Edge. We wish the new owners...
Read moreFood was good but a little surprised at what happened. I ordered a pint of beer and a takeaway pasta. Sat down outside under a tree (not even at a table) and was eating my pasta as I couldn't see any public bench to eat my pasta. I was on a phone call and there were at least 10 spare tables (wasn't busy at all). The waitress interrupts my phone call and says that I am not allowed to eat here because I ordered a takeaway meal and that I must leave. I just spent over $30 at this place and because I ordered a takeaway meal I was told off while there were MANY spare tables and chairs. I wasn't even sitting at a table. Assessing the situation I certainly wouldn't have told off a customer who was sitting under a tree, not a table just because they ordered takeway, and especially not interrupt a...
