Quan 88 is a hidden gem in St Kilda that offers a truly delightful Vietnamese dining experience. My wife and I visited this restaurant for a Sunday lunch, and we were blown away by the amazing food and top-notch service. We started off with the Quail with Spicy 88 Sauce, and it was hands down the best dish we had during our entire visit. The flavours were perfectly balanced, and the quail was cooked to perfection. We couldn't get enough of it! For our mains, we tried the Saigon Crispy Pork with Tamarind Sauce and the Combination Seafood with Lemongrass and Chilli. The crispy pork dish was simply superb. The combination seafood dish was a sizzler and packed with incredible flavours of lemongrass and chilli. Although the Combination Soft Egg Noodles had a bit too much protein and less noodles, the overall taste was still good. We also had the opportunity to try the Chicken Pho, and it was hands down one of the best pho dishes we've ever had in Melbourne. The soup was fresh, not overly salty, and had a subtle sweetness that elevated the flavours. The service was fast, friendly, and efficient. The staff members were attentive and ensured that we had everything we needed throughout our meal. The dishes came out promptly, which was impressive considering the restaurant's busy atmosphere. In terms of pricing, Quan 88 offers excellent value for money. The quality of the food, coupled with the generous portion sizes, makes it a fantastic option for those seeking authentic Vietnamese cuisine without breaking the bank. Overall, our experience here was nothing short of fantastic. The food was delicious, the service was outstanding, and the atmosphere was vibrant. If you're looking for a place to enjoy Vietnamese food in St Kilda, I highly recommend Quan 88 to...
Read moreI have sat down & eaten. I have also ordered on Uber eats & also ordered without Uber eats (when I heard how much Uber took off the restaurant.) We had a slap up meal when we ate here with the pho, the Quan 88 special ribs, and Vietnamese coleslaw as well as the spring rolls. I have ordered the barramundi, the fried chilli beef & the ribs. I have to say that one time the spring rolls were really bad & soggy but this was an aberration. Usually they are crispy & great so I don’t know what happened that one time. The ambience is good. It’s a busy but nice vibe. I have had them ask if I’m for Uber too - because I was - because you can pick up Uber eats… not just have it delivered and I had ordered a pick up - and so I think that other reviewer is being overly sensitive about racism and being Indian when it’s not necessarily so. It’s happened to me and they were right. I was there for Uber. And I’m not Indian. So it’s a bummer for those other reviewers because in my opinion Quan88 is one of the best restaurants in the area - fresh and consistent. Yeah there’s been an occasion when the spring rolls were bad - but it could’ve been the delivery guy allowing them to be covered too long and the steam makes them soggy- I can’t be sure and so I hesitate to cast aspersions. But these guys are my favourite in St Kilda and I’m devo’d on Mondays when they’re closed. Because they’re...
Read moreI dined here a few months ago with my family, and the food and service was fantastic - but what has made me write this review was the kindness offered by one of the members of the wait staff to my disabled brother. My brother was walking down the stairs coming from the toilet and began to struggle with the last few steps, but just as I went to help him - a young male member of the staff who at the time was busy cleaning something, intervened and held my brothers hand like it was nothing, and helped him down the stairs telling me "its ok it's ok, I will help". It actually makes me quite emotional thinking about it and now writing about it. Anyone with a family member who has a disability will tell you the fear you have of how they might be treated when you are not there, but this young man has given me a lot of hope. It was the speed and willingness of the act and how second-natured it seemed that made it a beautiful act of kindness and the type of fraternity and kinship I wish I saw in everyone. I wish I had had the chance to speak to a manager at the time but my family were leaving, so writing this review is the best I can do.
This young mans actions lasted only a few seconds but the effect it has had on me will last a lot longer and I think I will remember for a long time. I have since told this story to so many people and recommended Quan88 to them...
