Good if you want to try different types of sashimi you can't get at your regular fish supplier, and presentation is very pretty. We endured many inconveniences to come a long way to try this place, as we love fresh sashimi and have had sashimi from restaurants in the actual tsukiji market area in Japan.
If you name your restaurant after the district, you'd better be prepared to deliver. And they did not. It failed in spectacular fashion.
The cuts on display were poor, and there were no otoro or uni in sight. The tuna did not taste fresh, and the salmon was unspectacular. I've had better tastes and textures from salmon purchased at Fish Pier and Sushi Sushi - I won't even deign to compare it with anything from Japan, despite their appropriation of the name Tsukiji.
The rice is advertised as fluffy Japanese short grain rice, but it was NOT. This is the regular rice you get at Chinese restaurants - the grains and textures are not Japanese rice! They can't even provide a simple item as advertised. Miso soup is like water, with maybe 5 strips of seaweed floating about it's tasteless depths.
To top it all off, the service is horrible. We asked the cashier questions about how to order, and she was curt and annoyed, like we were magically supposed to know. She was rude at every interaction.
I donāt understand what the other reviews are going on about. This was overpriced and low quality for the price you pay - and we're willing to pay for good sashimi. We are extremely disappointed, and will never come back. Waste of the trip and effort to get here. Better to go...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is the most disappointing dining experience in 2022. I came here few years when there were old Japanese couple running the restaurant. It was amazing and I kept coming back. But now I finally came once after it changed the owner. I couldn't believe if I was in the same restaurant.
Customer service close to 0. I came with children and stood for 10 mins without anyone's greeting or asking until another couple was kind enough to give away their table to me and they moved to the smaller table. The wait time was rediculous. It used to be slow because the old couple's age, but now, why??Most of the people just had the Sashimi which you just need to cut and decorated a little bit. For the food I ordered, I waited for almost 1 hour.
Sashimi. Most of the people came for the Sashimi picking experience. Unfortunately you could find they are very pricey, such as $128/kg kingfish and $88/kg salmon. I can understand we are eating at the restaurant. It will be more expensive but I say it is over price because the quality of the Sashimi is down low. They are not as fresh as before. Rice. The worst part of the whole experience. As a Japanese restaurant, how could you make the rice like that? It's not acceptable. It's even worse than the rice you cook at home.
I won't come back and I felt sad for the old Japanese couple....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSuch a quaint and unassuming little Japanese restaurant. I used to come here nearly a decade ago when they only had 2 tables and would only do sashimi and was run like a traditional Japanese place in the middle of a busy Tokyo alley-way. Now it's got an array of food items and more twice the amount of tables.
Don't be fooled though, the sashimi is definitely the star of the show here! This is not your typical "fish place" either. You can always tell how fresh the fish is since you can't even smell it but the taste is another thing altogether
I only had one criticism after coming here for nearly a decade.....the rice! They used to serve short grain rice cooked very similarly to how you would get it in Japan; Shiny and Al dente on the outside, Soft to bite and pillow like texture when you chew into it.
I used to love that they were very authentic and would serve rice the way it was supposed to be served in Japan. The combination of the rice and sashimi definitely made it a very simple but great meal.
Unfortunately, they have not been a victim of their own success and the quality of the rice has suffered. They now serve what looks like overcooked Jasmine rice.
I'd still come for the sashimi but it would've been nice if they kept to the same quality as when they...
