I walked in and stood there for 5 mins while people looked at me but did not show me to a table. The food was poor at best and extremely over priced. The prawn toad was $16.80 and it was 2 tiny pieces no bigger than the spoon, see pics, I refused to eat it and sent it back. The salt and pepper calamari was terrible. I asked if it was battered or lightly dusted, he told me it was a very light dusting. It was heavily battered and so oily, I couldn’t eat more than half because it was dripping in oil, see pic and it was also very expensive at $33 for this awful dish. I will never eat here again, it’s way overpriced and poor quality. Wished I had have looked at the poor reviews before coming here. The wonton soup was reasonable but by no means good. The service was so poor, they were too busy talking among themselves, it took 5 mins to get someone to take my order and it was super quiet the. no one came to the table once the dishes were down. I took another 5 mins to get a glass of water after finally getting the attention of the wait staff. This experience was way below average.

Ahh Westlake. It's been a long time. As in 30 years. But I came back because I'm now working in Melbourne again. I stood out the front and watched the lobsters in their tanks when suddenly one was plucked out. Anyway, I went inside and was greeted by a nice waiter and shown a table. It was half full but know it gets very busy in the evening so recommend you book. The menu is obviously newer but the food was still as good as I remembered. The Cantonese style food is something of a favourite of mine. I tried the xiao long bao and siu mai. Fabulous. I wanted to try and egg tart but alas, there wasn't the time as I was due back at work. Next time I'll try the spring rolls as I saw them being served on another table and they looked great. Service was generally pretty good. Some staff are quick and efficient, others look bored. Prices are reasonable. Will come again to make sure it is consistent - consider it my duty to other diners (LOL). Next time, I'll return for a Yum Cha just like 30 years ago. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly.

This restaurant seems to cater mainly to tourists who may not be aware of the many other affordable yum cha options in Melbourne. The food, on the whole, is average. The yum cha menu offers a wide variety of options, while the à la carte menu primarily features large portion dishes. Unfortunately, the duck soup is thickened with cornstarch, which I personally don't find appealing. The truffle duck fried rice, while generously portioned, lacks a pronounced truffle flavor. In terms of service, it is rather mediocre. The senior waitress is quite friendly, but interactions with other staff members are limited. Additionally, the prices are not very budget-friendly. Please note that they charge an additional 50 cents for each takeaway box, a point to keep in mind.

Google rating 3.5 out of 5. That’s not particularly good, considering that they start with a minimum of 1 in order to submit a rating. Let’s take off the compulsory “1” and call it 2.5. That feels about right.

Busy tonight but walk in table available … bodes well. Waiting, waiting, waiting for menus. Ok, they’re busy … we understand. Hmm, that table over there came in after us and have menus (and eventually their orders) before us. Ok, we understand, they’re busy, AND disorganised (that “other table” ate, paid and left well before us).

Waiting, waiting. Eventually order. Glasses of wine quick to appear but food quite slow. Just two of us. Not ideal for Chinese restaurant dining … but tourist couples can’t produce large dining parties out of their R’s. A sweet and sour pork and a seafood rice. Neither above average. Pork pieces in “fish and chip style batter” (appears to be the local Chinese restaurant “style”) and seafood rice (premium priced) mostly all (expensive) rice with a minimal selection of seafood … mostly white fish (ok taste and texture), a few prawn pieces and a few chunks of (rubbery) squid. The seafood rice definitely the better of the two plates but overall disappointing. There’s a “squillion” Chinese restaurant in this area … statistically you’ll do better by walking...

We were a walk-in party of 7 (Saturday 8-9pm) initially service was goodish. After 10 minute wait a large table upstairs became available, we ordered 4 x Banquet A ($40 per head) and 3 x Banquet B ($70 per head) + 7 drinks. We requested water for the table x3 (expecting 7 cups or glasses and jug/bottle of water) we received 2 small cocacola glasses of water? We requested for the meals and drinks to be separated into 3 - the waitress agreed and took 3 seperate orders (preparing to split bill) anyways the food was ok, service meh. We go down to pay and the teller starts yelling at us saying they DO NOT split bills and repeatedly hits a sign that’s says no split bill. We try to quietly resolve the issue saying the waitress took 3 seperate orders for us and apologised we didn’t know this place wouldn’t normally do that. After 5 mins of the teller yelling and the Entire restaurant staring at us - we politely asked for the manager or owner to speak with us. After 5 mins waiting and now 2 other tables in queue to pay we finally see our waitress who brings up our 3 orders and the owner or manager says it’s ok for this once? I WILL NOT BE BACK we spent combined over $400 -...

I don’t know if I’ve ever gone out of my way to leave a negative review before but this just had to be done.

Stopped in for Yum Cha today and regret it so badly.

I am vegetarian so was told I had to order off the a La carte menu (which in itself is fine, i understand that dietary requirements are sometimes difficult to accomodate). I ordered vegetable dumplings which took ages to arrive and turned out to be just 3 small dumplings with the only filling being mushroom. They were not nice and were very expensive at $9.80 plus public holiday surcharge.

We sat there for 45 minutes and in that time the only thing my partner got was one serve of pork buns. There were so few trolleys coming round and the ones that were coming the food was being taken by customers who were sat closer to the kitchen. There didn’t seem to be any plan to make sure everyone got something.

We weren’t offered any drinks, veggies or even rice. After 45 minutes we paid for our pork buns and left still starving. There was a couple behind us paying up to do the same thing.

I absolutely wouldn’t recommend this...
