Real score 4.2 out of 5.

I could be in love. An arctic blast has arrived in Melbourne and indoors is currently the only place to be. I found myself early for a CBD dinner and wanted to use the time sensibly on a pre dinner drink. Whiskey Den appealed after the recent review by @Split the Bill. Their review nailed the place, as you’d expect of foodie royalty.

We have a cute and cosy whiskey bar here with bottles fully adorning the walls. Could things get any cuter. This is pretty much the perfect place to escape the cold and warm up. Just about any serious dram you could ever want lines the walls here. It’s mighty impressive. There’s hundreds of beauties. I warmed myself further with a Laphroaig and later a Lagavulin, both from Scotland’s Isle of Islay. The former is the better but the latter is most respectable too. It was not only the wide choice of drops that impressed me here. I can’t recall the last time I saw a whisky properly poured. I’ve seen lots of good product spilled on bars courtesy of lowly skilled bar staff. It’s tragic. No such rubbish here. The pouring here involves the highest skill and I found myself near mesmerised by it. Not a wasted drop. Service was nice and warm overall and the guys here really know their stuff. The fact that they were wearing Hawaiian shirts and one had a fake plastic moustache actually added to the atmosphere.

I enjoyed it here. I’ll be...

We entered, we sat in the booth and tried a few whiskeys, a particular whiskey they didn't have that we originally ordered. My wife went to the bar to get the substituted drink as The bartender proceeded to offer another whiskey which was OK.

The clear request was nothing over 100.00 per glass.

To then sell a glass to my wife for 188.00 per glass is ridiculous.

Hence we walk out and they missed out on significant amount of more trade. Don't take advantage of people.

Boutique whiskey bars know enough that there are plenty of good whiskey out there for 50.00 per glass or less from Australia like Lark, Sullivan's Cove and even Timboon...

Whisky Den is easily one of the finest establishments in Melbourne. If you need a whisky fix, absolutely make this a top priority. Warm, comfortable, cozy. The staff are pretty cool, too.
