The staff here were great. But the food... The food was absolutely amazing. The pork belly just melts on your mouth, getting flavour from the meat, with the perfect amount of crackling to top it off. The duck buns were delicious, yet spicey. I usually can not do spicey food at all, but when you bite down on the buns and chew, the hot spice is dampened by the sweet bun, and becomes pure flavour. The salt and pepper chicken (with the creamy sauce) kind of reminds me of kara ange chicken, and tastes delightful... I could go on and on about the food, but it's safe to say, you will find something you like. The food is mostly share plates, which I love. Getting to the design of this place. It is well designed, with high ceilings and extra attention to detail was given by placing crisp cross wood patterns everywhere. As a sound engineer, I love it when places like this use sound dampening techniques in their design, to lower the overall chit chat noise that bounces around most restaurants. This alone is worth praises as we were in a fairly crowded environment, yet we were able to converse without the need to shout over the top of surrounding tables. The table spacing is also excellent, and you do not feel like you are crammed in. Many options for seating, but I suggest sitting at the bar if there is only a few of you, because watching the chef's cook, while you and your friends have a few drinks is really cool. This review is getting long. If your a Melbournian food lover, then this should be on your list of places to enjoy. If you are travelling then this place is one of the better, high quality places to eat, and you won't be disappointed. 10/10

Lucy Liu continues to deliver awesome food. We now live in Sydney so hadn't been for years. Tonight we sat at the counter which was incredible - amazing to see the chefs at work creating great tasting food. We started with the KINGFISH SASHIMI, GREEN NAM JIM, COCONUT & THAI BASIL which was so tasty and the perfect start to our night. We then had 2 serves of LUCY’S SOFT SHELL CRAB JIANBING (one at the start of the night and one at the end as they are so good). My husband had the CRISPY PORK BUN, HOUSE MADE KIMCHI, SRIRACHA MAYO which he loved - it's made with pork belly which I can't eat. I had the FRIED CHICKEN BUN, GOCHUJANG, PICKLED RADISH and actually had a second one (but the second I asked for with extra Gochujang sauce as that's where the spice is - omg, so so so good - and reminded me of when I first ate it). We also shared GREEN PAPAYA SALAD, SHRIMP, CHILLI & LIME which was light, delicious and a perfect accompaniement to the other dishes. I highly recommend Lucy Liu and recommend the smaller dishes on the menu as I personally find them more flavourful. Our service last night was mixed. Our main waiter (male, Asian appearance) wasn't particularly attentive or engaging. However a waitress, Amy, brought our drinks and then was incredibly engaging, assisted us with ordering and then took our order - she was fabulous and made our night. Drinks were well priced - we had beers and gin & tonics.

First of all, there are two doors. one used only as an exit and one as an entrance. I got quite confused about where the entrance was and wandered around for a while. To get to the point, it was just okay. There were mistakes with my order, and the staff seemed busy, so it took a long time to order. However, the service got much better as the meal went on, so the initial mistakes didn't bother me too much. Also, you can find the menu by flipping over the illustration on the table. I spent some time figuring this out because the staff didn't mention it at first. They seem to want to give the restaurant a unique character, but they should explain things better to the customers. It was the weekend, and I was dining alone, so I sat at the bar table. Here, it seems the head chef informs the staff when the food is ready in the kitchen. The chef's voice must get tired... Anyway, the kingfish was not bad. The cream on top was unique, and it balanced well with the distinctive sauce. You probably don't need to order the oysters. I was looking forward to the pork knuckle dish... but I should have ordered something else. They served fried pork knuckle (similar to the German dish Schweinshaxe), and it was tough to cut. It would have been better if it had been pre-sliced in the kitchen. The dish is meant to be eaten like Peking duck, with thin pancakes and vegetables, but it was too different from what I expected, and I didn't enjoy it. The apple kimchi pancake consisted of kimchi made from shredded apple and a thin pancake. The texture and sweetness of the apple weren't bad, but it lacked the distinctive tanginess of kimchi, which was disappointing. The hoisin sauce was too ordinary. It would have been better with both hoisin and chili sauce. Throughout the meal, I kept thinking the food just lacked flavor. Not that it was bad, but it didn't taste like much. It would be better to order dumplings, buns, and a small main dish instead. The dessert was delicious, though. As for whether I'll go back... I'm not sure; I'll have to think about it.

I first visited Lucy Liu back in March 2017. I remembered we went with Let Lucy Choose - 7 courses. My memory of this place was that the foods was ecstatic and the flavour really made my taste buds danced with joy. I was really hoping to visit this restaurant again. I came back 1 year later. The atmosphere is still the same. Again we went for the 7 courses Let Lucy Choose. The Yellow Fin Tuna Tataki is good. The Organic Silken Tofu has a lovely flavour. The Salt & Pepper Chicken Ribs are fantastic. The Peking Duck Dumplings are rather interesting. They are very dense and heavy. Dumplings are supposed to be rather light. The Sweet and Sour Pork is a shocker. The pork is very tender but the flavour is not great. Not so sweet and sour. Could be more sweet and more sour. Drunken Free Range Chicken is the knock out dish. The chicken is cooked to perfection with the right amount of alcohol. Some fish dish, not sure what fish it is but it taste really good. Wagu with Noodles is another shocking dish. It's really not pleasant to eat. To be fair, it could have been that we all feel extremely full. So toward the end, not everything taste as good as the first few dishes. They could have 5 savoury dishes and 2 sweet to balance it out. We almost have to roll ourselves out of the restaurant. We are so full. One great thing is that they allow us to take away the left over. We really don't want to waste any food.

ORDERED: 🐟 Kingfish sashimi, green nam jim, coconut & thai basil ($28.00) 🍤 Tempura prawn betel leaf, ponzu (3 pieces) ($18.00) 🥦 Turmeric spiced cauliflower, sesame tofu dressing, furikake ($18.00) 🌯 Lucy's soft shell crab jianbing ($18.00) 🍖 Cape Grim Shortrib rendang, tumeric pickles, jasmine rice ($48.00) I spent $86.46 here, which included a mocktail and sunday surcharge. REVIEW: Half a week on, and I can tell you confidently the memorable dishes were: 1️⃣ Kingfish sashimi. One of their signature dishes, it's a light starter than came out super fast. Its tangy profile shocks you and wakes your taste buds a little to start your food journey. 2️⃣ Turmeric spiced cauliflower. The head of the cauliflower was fried for that crisp, seasoned for impact and it fell apart underneath my fork. An absolute joy. ❗ If you were dining with 2 people, my advice is that you can go without the main. There was so much food from 4 starter dishes, and we were full after the jianbing. 🤝 Lucy liu marries up concepts from different South Asian dishes, like the Soft shell crab jianbing that's wrapped with a peking-duck wrap but filled with fresh herbs reminiscent of Vietnamese/Thai influence. Service was friendly and dining on the Kitchen Bar made it very fun. We got to watch some of our dishes be created and appreciate the tight knit efficiency that the kitchen team were performing under. 🥰

As we stepped into Lucy Liu on a chilly Melbourne evening, we were enveloped in a warm and inviting atmosphere that immediately put us at ease. The dim lighting, cozy decor, and friendly service created the perfect ambiance for a night out with friends. The soft hum of conversation, the gentle clinking of glasses, and the aroma of exotic spices all blended together to create a sensory experience that was both calming and exciting. And then, of course, there was the food - oh, the food! The Spiced Turmeric Cauliflower was a revelation, with its tender florets smothered in a rich, creamy sauce that was both familiar and innovative. The Prawn & Spinach Dumplings were a masterclass in texture and flavor, with each bite a perfect balance of crispy and tender, savory and sweet. And the Drunken Chicken? Let's just say it was love at first bite, with its tender meat, crispy skin, and rich, savory sauce. Throughout the meal, the team at Lucy Liu were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, happy to answer our questions about the menu and offer pairing suggestions from their expertly curated drink list. By the end of the night, we felt like we'd found a new favorite haunt, a place where we could return again and again to experience the magic of Lucy Liu.
