Wise Guys Pizza 'n' Pasta — Restaurant in Melbourne

It's upsetting to have to write this review, because I've ordered from here before and loved the quality of the pizzas. But after my last experience, I will never order from Wise Guys again.

We ordered 3 pizzas on Labour day (March 8th) at 6:50 pm. One was specifically ordered to be gluten free due to a serious health condition of one of our guests. We were told there would be a 45 minute wait for the pizza delivery, which was understandable considering they were one of the few places open during a public holiday. However when our pizzas arrived at 7:40 pm, one of the pizzas was not one we had ordered. It was an ordinary pizza without a gluten free base.

We called immediately, informing them of the issue. We asked that they please send the gluten free pizza as soon as possible, and to please write on the box indicating that it was gluten free to avoid any mix up with the delivery again. The man on the phone apologised for the blunder, and informed us that it would be sent "as soon as possible" but that there would be a wait due to all delivery drivers being out and it being a busy night.

At around 8:15 pm we called again, requesting an update on the pizza. They informed us that they had not yet made the gluten free pizza and that we would have to wait for the orders before us to be completed. The man on the phone was unprofessional as we expressed our dissatisfaction with the wait.

The third time we called was around 8:40 pm, when we asked for another update on the pizza. We were informed that it had been made, but that it was now cold and would have to be remade. We were also told that all the delivery drivers were out and that we would have to wait until they were able to arrive. We expressed that this was unsatisfactory, and that we had been waiting almost 2 hours for this pizza. As soon as we informed the man that it had been 2 hours, his entire demeanor changed. Suddenly he became helpful, saying that he would personally see that the pizza would be made and that he would pay personally for an Uber to take and deliver the pizza for us.

At 9:20pm our gluten free pizza FINALLY arrived via an Uber, along with a box of complimentary chips (see photos). I do appreciate that we were given the free chips and that the employee at the end went out of his way to get the pizza delivered, but at that point it was too little too late. We had waited over 2 hours for the gluten free replacement pizza, had had our complaints disregarded, and felt disrespected on the phone.

It's understandable that this was a busy and stressful night for the staff, but after the first phone call I would hope that they would prioritize fixing the mix up. Making a customer with a health condition have to wait over 1 hour and a half longer for their pizza is completely inconsiderate. The unprofessionalism of the man on the phone was disappointing, and it was infuriating that the pizza box had not been marked as "gluten free" as we had requested multiple times over multiple phone calls. It should not have taken so long for the employee to take our complaints seriously and for the pizza to have been prioritised.

Unfortunately, despite loving the quality and taste of the pizzas, I will never be ordering from this...

Pizzas are amazing love them BUT unfortunately extremely overpriced $45 delivery for 2 X small pizzas. Granted can't fault them as they are divine but cost is very high and also disappointing for what you get in terms of portion, that is honestly the only thing I can fault is that these guys are overpriced.

EDIT 23/10/24 thanks Jimmy for getting in touch, I never stated that the delivery was overpriced you are right $4 was the delivery fee. please see my attached screenshot. I understand with the current cost of living crisis things are going up in price. Your pizzas are amazing but $20 each per small pizza is really disappointing. It was smaller than a standard dinner plate. Please don't say it was because I got a marinara or gourmet vegetarian as that would just be disappointing to hear as an excuse The price does not justify what I received portion wise for the cost compared to that of other places. Maybe you guys can do a deal of some sort like 2 large pizzas, a coke or garlic bread or something. Ordered a late night dinner here via UberEats. We ordered 2 pizzas - a small Untouchable, and a medium Gangster Chicken.

Took 40 minutes to receive the pizza, it was warm but on the colder side by the time we received it.

The Untouchable pizza was alright, the chicken pizza, on the other hand, was terrible. It was so dry that it was hard to swallow. I don’t think I’ve ever had a pizza this bad before. Even my housemate had to add tomato relish to make it edible. The taste wasn’t great either. We requested for extra bbq sauce on the chicken pizza and spinach on the side, and were very disappointed to find the spinach on the pizza and without extra bbq sauce. The chicken pizza tasted like it was over baked. I also requested for chilli flakes/oil on the side but sadly didn’t receive any.

I’m sorry but I don’t think I’ll be coming back for more. For any foodie or anyone who appreciates a good Italian pizza, this is definitely not the...
