My wife and I enjoy the food and service at Hao Chi very much; in fact, the steamed barramundi is “heavenly.” The restaurant is thoughtfully decorated and very clean. That being said, the reason why we only gave a two star review for the atmosphere, is “not” because it “is” well decorated and beautifully appointed, but because of a group of specific customers who do “not” respect the atmosphere or the other diners enjoying the Chinese fine dining experience. More to the point, at many times during our dinners, the “din” of those around us rendered it almost impossible for us to hold a decent conversation. And this, was before they even “had” a cocktail! Obnoxious, low-class individuals talking much too loudly, and in groups, acting exclusively whilst ignoring anyone else around them. Now, we do realize that the Chinese, generally speaking, are not a “complaining” race, which may explain why the Management does not make amends to curtail such rowdy “saloon- like” behaviour. The genre of music chosen could be a contributing factor; soft Oriental music would be more suitable in such a dining room, albeit, the lighting of the establishment is very well balanced. Hao Chi is a fine dining restaurant and not a corner “pub.” Therefore, we feel that this issue should be addressed, on behalf of those who “do” respect the atmosphere and other diners. We would be remiss, if we did not suggest that patrons visiting Kao Chi should respect others by lowering their voices since there are other diners who are simply trying to enjoy the delicious cuisine and their own “private” conversations. Without doubt, a classy environment, deserves a classy clientele ~ If you do visit Hao Chi, enter its premises with respect, both for the experience and for others. “Class-up”…it is, after all, 2025. When in public consider others around you. 🥢🍸 Michael & Xiaojing

We had dinner at Hao Chi with a party of 7. First thing we noticed was how loud the restaurant was but we were super keen to get ordering and start eating. We ordered and requested our meals (which we planned to share) come out at the same time so we could have a banquet style meal. We thought this was the point given the round table we were seated at and massive lazy susan in the middle. After being told this wouldn’t be possible we waited 20 mins before our waiter told us he forgot to press ‘send on our order’. We waited another 20 mins for our meals, which proceeded to come out one by one. At one point there were literally 2 springs rolls on the table to share b/w the 7 of us. It was honestly comedic (see picture). The exact same thing was occurring at the large tables surrounding us - meals coming out one by one to share between 5-12 people. No one looked impressed. Food was ok. Could have gotten the same standard, if not better, at a Chinese takeaway for half the price. In response to a previous 1 star review, the restaurant has justified their exorbitant prices on quality, service, venue and location. As noted, the quality of the food was nothing special; the service left much to be desired - it was hard to get a waiter’s attention when needed and staff were obviously stretched thin; the venue is aesthetically pleasing, but on closer inspection there were down lights falling out of the ceiling and it was SO loud; lastly the location is central, but the limited parking around this area is usually a nightmare. Sooo, not sure the prices actually are justified. Wouldn’t recommend the al a carte menu for a large group.

Dining at Hao Chi was an unforgettable experience that made our 10th wedding anniversary truly special. It was our first date night out since welcoming our fourth baby a few months ago, and everything about the evening felt thoughtful and memorable. We began with the ginger shallot kingfish dumplings, which were impeccable – light, refreshing, and delicately balanced in flavour. The cumin lamb dumplings were equally outstanding, wrapped in beautifully thin pastry with a rich, earthy cumin complexity that lingered in the best way. The highlight of the evening was the mud crab. The chef personally brought it to the table, still alive, and even allowed me to hold it before it was cooked. When it returned to our table, it was perfectly prepared – sweet, tender, and bursting with fresh flavour. The chef kindly guided us through the best way to crack the shell with the provided tools, and the thoughtful touch of moist towelettes afterwards showed the level of care in every detail. The service was truly exceptional – warm, attentive, and genuine. Every staff member made us feel welcomed and cared for, adding a personal touch that elevated the entire experience. Hao Chi is more than just a meal; it’s an experience that combines exquisite food, impeccable service, and a beautiful atmosphere. We left with full hearts and grateful smiles, already planning our next visit. I’d love the chance to return and create even more special memories at Hao Chi.

What a disappointment heard great reviews but today was disappointing! There was four of us for Mother’s Day lunch, when we first arrived we were seated then just left didn’t come back with water or to take a drink order! After requesting someone to take our drink order it then took about 15min before they came back to take that order by this time we were ready to order our food as well! water was finally placed on table but still it took awhile for the drink to arrive and then only half the ordered arrived had to ask where the rest of the drink order were? Bad start to our lunch! Well it get worse, final the first of many shared plates arrived! the dumpling's were just dumped on the table no sauces just 6 steamed dumplings sitting on a plate we had to ask for sauces? They placed a bottle of soy sauce you know the small bottle with a red top that pour’s either side & this is a $$$ restaurant….. straight away there’s a problem here! chilli sauce in a small plate dumped just like a after thought! The rest of the shared plates arrived but once again we had to call someone over again to place a drink order! not one staff member came to ask how was the meal so far was everything going ok “ nothing “ The main meals arrived but still nobody came over to ask how was the meal? The meal was ok but it was like being back in the 80’s when you could get this in you little local Chinse restaurant! We are here in a restaurant that is new to Newcastle & up there in price $$$ but not meeting the expectation that warrant the $$$ I get a better meal at my local Chinese takeaway during the week! We didn’t get asked if we would like dessert or if we liked the meal just dumped the bill on the table didn’t explain where to pay or that they would come over to the table to take payment! Nothing!!!!! I wouldn’t recommend...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Hao Chi, and I must say, it was an experience worth celebrating. From the moment I stepped through the door, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality, setting the tone for a delightful evening.

The ambiance of the restaurant was inviting, with tasteful decor and a vibrant atmosphere that immediately put me at ease. However, what truly made my visit memorable was the impeccable service provided by the staff, particularly Kent.

Kent's attention to detail and genuine care for the patrons truly shone through. He went above and beyond to ensure that my dining experience was nothing short of exceptional. From offering insightful recommendations on the menu to accommodating any special requests, Kent's professionalism and friendly demeanor were truly commendable.

As for the food, every dish that graced my table was a testament to the culinary expertise of the chefs at Hao Chi. Each bite was bursting with flavor, showcasing the freshness of the ingredients and the skillful execution of the recipes.

In addition to the outstanding food and service, the overall atmosphere at Hao Chi Restaurant was one of warmth and conviviality. Whether dining alone or with a group, it's evident that this establishment prides itself on creating a welcoming environment where guests can enjoy delicious food and create lasting memories.

In conclusion, my experience at Hao Chi Restaurant exceeded all expectations, thanks in large part to the exemplary service provided by Kent and the rest of the dedicated staff. I highly recommend this establishment to anyone seeking an unforgettable dining experience in Newcastle. I can't wait to return and indulge in their culinary...
