Of the competing burger joints that seem to have become popular in Newcastle over the last few years, Rascal is my favourite. The staff are always friendly, the seating inside is comfortable (table, booth or bench), and the atmosphere is cozy. I have become a fan of the signature burger (The Rascal), and the Big Al is a great-tasting burger as well. The signature Rascal Sauce is similar to BigMac sauce, but goes nicely on the burgers it comes on. They also make great Thickshakes, and a variety of desserts, with a kids menu as well. I only tried the Mac and Cheese once and wasn't a fan, as it has cheetos grated and sprinkled on top for a really cheesy flavour. The chips are thick-cut and great to get as a side too. They also have slaw, tater-tots, and tater-tots with paprika, bacon and cheese on top as sides. I wish the thick shakes were slightly larger, but I'm never dissatisfied...
Read moreTasty burgers, funky welcoming setup in Newcastle. The staff are friendly and accomodating. We had some burgers here with the kids in tow. They all had the cheeseburgers and chips. They thoroughly enjoyed them. The set up is edgy, with an 80’s / 90’s feel to the theme. Burger names reflect this. Recommended steps, enter, order, the IPA beers are great as well, grab a table and THEN wonder around the joint and look at some of the humorous photos / sayings written on the walls - unless you’re a person that doesn’t get offended by non PC statements, the jokes will be way over your head. My wife and I had many chuckles over this. They also have a burger of the week/mth with a poster depicting past burgers and their names. This was very funny also….. but you just had to be there😂
Loved the burgers and the beer, keep up the good work...
Read moreI can't get over just how good the food here is. My burger arrived quickly, was fresh and hot and absolutely delicious. The chips were crunchy (exactly how I like them) and remind me of how as a kid, whenever we got fish and chips I'd dig through the bag for the crunchy ones. Except at Rascal the entire plate of chips was crunchy ones.
My only gripe (if I'm being really nitpicky) is that after awhile I began to get over the flavoured salt on the chips, and needed a drink to wash away the aftertaste. However, that is personal choice and next time I'll just ask for the chips to have less flavoured salt. Because there absolutely will be a next time.
I cannot wait to come here again! The staff are lovely, the location is nice, atmosphere is good, but the food is the star of the...
