While wandering aimlessly around Newcastle city centre, we ended up in Ka-fey cafe, one of the few places that were still open and serving in the late afternoon. The funky, off-the-wall vibes and comfy setting with a hint of antique shop must makes it a great place where time seems to move slower and life feels not all that bad. The staff and the regular patrons expressed a laidback, genial attitude that didn't naturally emulate from us tourists but we made ourselves home with the everyman food. They have an extensive menu of unique drinks, healthy options and cafe staples that are sure to please even the pickiest of eaters. We ordered the BLAT chaffle sandwich, chicken schnitzel wrap and a chicken, avocado, cheese and aioli sandwich. My ears perked up upon seeing their signature chaffles and I was happily digging into their mad scientist concoction of a sacred BLAT and cheesy waffles. The glistening, golden chaffle was in immaculate, waffle-like form with an undeniable cheesy flavour. The chaffle's mild taste integrated seamlessly with the excellence of the BLAT, smoky layers of bacon, crisp lettuce, creamy avocado and a dollop of tangy aioli. That's another foodie moment added to the list. The chicken schnitzel wrap was executed perfectly with fresh ingredients and a toasted exterior, making it a very satisfying meal. Although the sourdough sandwich wasn't spectacular by any means, the procured blend of thick chicken with rich-tasting counterparts was nutritious. It might not be the most aesthetic or ground-breaking cafe out there but it does simplicity well which is all most people ask for. Honestly, the down-to-earth character and good food of Ka-fey cafe is something to be cherished by locals and visitors alike.

The looks? Un-assuming shop front with warmly lit interior. Spacious between tables and is super family friendly. The food? Ordered the In House Burger and granola bowl. Fries were crunchy and fresh out of the fryer and so was the granola. The burger patty was cooked well however it lacked any juicyness and the punch you'd expect from a wholesome burger. The coffee? Being a city slicker my taste for coffee can be tilted towards the pretentious and snobby side. The coffee today was quite bland and missing the note of flavors you'd want for a good caffeine hit.

Worst cafe food. Sloppy preparation, poor quality. Healthy cafe advertising in our case was a cover for poorly made and served food. My special Chicken Curry at $16 ($50 all up, rip off) had two bits of chicken, and rice stuck together giving the impression it was not cooked today, very poor portion. Slops is how it was presented. Fritters burnt. Lazy cooking and no customer care. Couldn't be bothered discussing it as all staff where eating behind the counter and in the kitchen. Maybe owner run and lost sight of his customers.

Unfortunately, our experience here was not similar to many others that visit this establishment. We ordered a "vegetarian" breakfast and specifically asked the chap taking orders if the breakfast could be made vegan to cater for both myself and wife. After going through the ingredients he assured us it could. So we ordered aforementioned breakfast. After waiting 45 minutes our breakfast arrived with a couple of poached eggs on both. We did not have time for another breakfast to be made so decided on a refund. The chap that served us gave us a refund but not one word was exchanged and no eye contact afforded us. We left feeling we were in the wrong. Failed customer service in my opinion. As we were leaving the young lady who served us our food apologised which was a slight positive on a negative experience. This review would not have been left and could have been resolved had the chap serving handled the situation correctly and afforded us any kind of...

We spent a few days in Newcastle and was disappointed to find my favourite coffee shop had closed. To my delight I stumbled across Ka-fey cafe and I’m so glad i did. This cafe has just become my new favourite spot to eat in Newy 🥰. The service is excellent, very friendly and accommodating staff, and a welcoming atmosphere. When I enquired about the best Kombucha drink to have, i was given a sample to try, which was so good. The food is healthy and delicious with a good variety and the protein smoothie was excellent. They sell Froyo frozen yoghurt and it absolutely by far the best I’ve ever had. I couldn’t get enough of this place and ate there everyday. I can’t wait to go back next time and i hope 🙏🏼 It will still be there. This is Newcastles best kept...
