Lady Latte — Restaurant in Scarborough

Six years ago I came to the cafe with my family and left the comment below the line. I’ve been visiting since, albeit infrequently and came in this morning again. I had a bit of time, wanted eggs benedict and needed a walk.

I never thought I would see and experience what I did. Amazing.

As I came in, the owner and the chef were talking outside. I walked in and the lady that works the coffee machine took my order. She didn’t want to interrupt the conversation and made the eggs benedict and coffee. Everything looked (and tasted) amazing.

The lady then walked over to the two and the conversation turned to some action. Owner came over to check how things are (as he usually does) and then did something unexpected. He leaned over and had a look at my plate. I figured he was checking how the eggs were served and I thought nothing of it. In the meantime, as I was making my way through the delicious breakfast, I noticed that the amount of salmon was less than usual. And then magic. The owner wonders over and brings a couple of extra slices of salmon: “We noticed salmon was a bit less.” he said. The lady that made the meal suggested that she didn’t know they had more salmon. For the record, she is not the chef and it wasn’t her job to know. I accepted the additional serve of salmon and it was like things were in balance again.

I want to say I am lost for words but I just wrote this review so obviously I am not. Seriously though, this morning I saw the respect staff have for each other and the customer. I saw staff show ownership and go the extra mile and then I saw care for the quality of service and consistency of customer experience.

I’ll leave it here for the fear of starting to sound like the Lady Latte groupie. Fact is, I am going to continue coming infrequently because eating out is a treat and a pleasure.

These guys really made my experience of treating myself to a lovely meal a truly pleasurable one and since I am a local, the job of coming back will not be hard at all.

We came here to get away from the hustle of the esplanade & it definitely had the quieter atmosphere we were looking for. My partner & I both had the bruschetta, which was fresh, delicious & perfectly balanced flavour wise. The poached eggs were PERFECTLY cooked! The coffee was also nice in flavour, and well made. Props to the chef & barista!

My only complaint about this place was the I’m presuming owner, having a power trip over his staff. The two lovely ladies behind the counter did not stop working the entire time we were there and the service was very fast considering how busy they were. However, whilst quietly chatting amongst themselves, they were abruptly asked to stop talking and move faster by the owner, (whilst ushering them with his hands) quite rudely and loud enough for us to hear. The shift in the atmosphere after this was immediate! Both ladies were instantly in a lower mood. If staff are talking and stop working, I can understand saying something. But if your workers continue to work, and are quietly chatting, I don’t see the issue. Nor is it appropriate to do so in the earshot of customers.

As someone who works in hospitality, the people you work with and how they treat you makes a huge difference to your desire to work there. If your staff are working hard, and not being obnoxiously loud, leave them be. We were keen to come try more off the menu, but because of this, we won’t be back. I will not support businesses who disrespect their staff.

One of my favourite cafes in all of Perth, I only wish it wasn't such a far drive away from me.

The food, out of all the cafes I've been to is the best, from the portion sizes, to the presentation and most importantly the flavour, there is clearly a lot of love, passion and effort put into every dish and it shows.

The atmosphere is so chill and a good vibe all around, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and very comfy couch seats.

The place is very well detailed and decorated on the inside too.

But most importantly the customer service is just out of this world, the folks working here greet you with a smile, are so incredibly polite and go the extra mile.

The day I came in, they were unfortunately out of stock on Salmon for one of the dishes, they had gotten a bad batch, the owner went off his way, drove to their supplier to get another batch so he could serve us the food we drove so far to try.

Never in my days, did I ever think someone would've gone that far to make sure the customer was satisfied.

I cannot recommend this place enough, from its food to the beautiful people working here, and just a few blocks down from the beach, easily one of the best Cafes...
