Worst customer service ever, mediocre banh mi & scammed out of a Vietnamese coffee.
We walked in with high hopes of getting a fresh Banh Mi and Vietnamese coffee. We were seen by one of the workers and we didn’t even get a greeting. Ordered Banh Mi crispy pork belly, paid extra $3 for more meat and a Vietnamese coffee total came to $24. We also asked for chilli, extra mayo and pate.
Anyways, out came our banh mi and tbh it had no flavour just tasted like a normal pork roll. The amount of pork was not extra, it was normal serving so I confronted the staff about it. Instead of showing they cared and added it into our banh mi they just gave a side plate of dry pieces of roast pork. I also asked for more pate and mayo and there was none or maybe just flavourless.
I couldn’t taste the coriander so tbh there was already soo much disappointment at this stage, but oh wait it gets better. So I talked to the owner about it being flavourless and he just looks at me like I didn’t know what I was talking about. So I asked him for soy sauce because every good banh mi ive had has always had the soy sauce seasoning Inside it, which gives it that umami flavour. 👎🏾👎🏾
Out comes our Vietnamese coffee and it was just brewed coffee beans with maybe sugar syrup and milk. He definitely didn’t use Vietnamese coffee or condensed milk like traditional the Vietnamese coffee. So far my experience here has been soo bad, at least the coffee can save the day. As I asked the owner if it’s Vietnamese coffee he points to the packet insisting if I want Vietnamese coffee i can purchase a packet he had for sale. For me, why advertise Vietnamese coffee if you’re just going to use sugar syrup, milk and standard coffee beans.
The staff seam to not care and the owner definitely doesn’t care of what I had to say. I’m a qualified chef of 15 years and I love banh mi when it’s done right but this owner is hurting his own business. Instead of growing an ego and ignoring my claims he should really listen to his customers as I gave very constructive feedback. I hate writing bad reviews it really wastes my time and hurts businesses but the owner has left me with no choice. People must know the truth.
Lastly, despite it being a busy or quiet day, your standards for high quality food and customer service should be the same even if it’s the first banh mi of the day or the last one in the evening. Greatly disappointed. After spending $24 for rubbish, I really wish we...
Read moreThe Urban Cafe After trying The Pocket Espresso Bar. I hit Google again and found The Urban Café with a rating of 4.7. Wow I thought, better than the Pocket or Beau’s? Perhaps this was going to be where I met the Holy Grail of coffee.
It would be my first time here also and it is now 10.30, I am the only soul here my alarm bells sound but its too late. I light-heartedly banter with the owner about their 4.7 Google rating and say I have come to try their coffee. Well that went down like nuns at a Billy Connelly show that knew no better, no smile or reply. I’m your only customer and about to spend my hard earned covid friendly dosh and I feel that I am imposing on your time. Anyone that’s had Campos coffee knows it’s a pretty damn fine bean. I ordered my standard Cappuccino and a Greek salad.
I notice 3 customers from a local business/government type building get coffee and received more banter than my witty entrance. Food and coffee arrive, the coffee is served in a Campos mug looks ok, just ok. The Greek salad looks red and served with some toast. To be honest the coffee was ordinary and the salad not much better. The salad has some crunch but no taste as if they have thrown it into the dish.
There was no love at all in either. Maybe this business will be another one of the for lease shops I have noticed all over Caloundra. In this current Pandemic having good coffee isn’t enough, it has to be great with great food and service. None was evident here. I notice on my journey the oldies hanging out and two Cafes, clearly these businesses have the target customers identified with probably low cost good food and ok coffee but they are more likely to drink tea. I don’t know how Urban got 4.7 but it wasn’t there today and I will be surprised if they are still in business soon.

Read moreI had a crispy pork banh mi today, and it was absolutely delicious! The bread was fresh, beautifully toasted, and had a great aroma. The herbs were just right, and the crispy pork was tender and flavorful. Every bite was perfectly balanced— not too dry, not too wet. I highly recommend it!
I also ordered a flat white, and it was excellent—smooth, not too acidic or bitter.
The staff were incredibly friendly, and the dining area was clean, quiet, and free from any unpleasant smells. The combination of Vietnamese food and coffee in this space creates a fantastic atmosphere.
I hope everyone gets a chance to experience the care and effort they put into their food.
We’ve passed by this place many times and finally had the chance to try it. It did...
