Iâve come here a few times now, and the quality still doesnât disappoint. I will start by saying that you generally order at the counter before going in and finding a seat. Some people go in and sit down, then read the menu and order when they know what they want, but most of the time you have to read the menu and know what you want pretty quickly. There is, however, often a decent line, such that you can read the menus as you wait.
The place is quite busy and hectic but food tends to come quite quickly. Water, cutlery and sauces or share plates are all self service. Iâd recommend getting them early as they can run low, so itâs best to get haute youâve got it rather than needing it and not being able to get it.
Itâs great because you can choose where you sit (but tbh, you usually donât have much choice as it is so busy so you just have to sit where there is availability). However, if you sit towards the back, you may get a sneaky view of them making the noodles!
The food is pretty good here. Weâve tried various Lanzhou noodles and this is my partnerâs favourite. It is great that you can choose the size of the noodle and the level of chilli too!
We got the: classic Lanzhou beef soup noodle - nice, it has the sliced beef which is easy to eat and feels quite healthy Lanzhou braised beef soup noodle- very similar to the classic one, but the beef comes in chunks and seems a bit more filling. I personally preferred this one stir fry beef noodles- classic âShanghainese style noodles; good flavour and a lot of sauce. Quite oily though, and not much beef chive pocket- a fried pocket of dough filled with egg and chives. It isnât as flavourful as the rest of the dishes but I liked it. Probably more suitable for kids! boiled beef dumpling- really good! I was surprised but these were filled generously and felt like a substantial dumpling. With the sauce, it was a hit!
Overall, Iâd recommend coming here! The food is good and if you get lucky, you wonât have to wait too long. Most of the food is beef or lamb though, so keep that in mind. They do have a some vegetarian options, like eggplant, greens, and side dishes, but these arenât very...
Read moreWhat they do well: The beef noodle soups are excellent, as are the lamb skewers. You will have a hard time finding better noodles especially at their price point. Despite the queues and busyness the food is typically served within 15 minutes. I've eaten here about 20 times and the quality/service speed is consistent. They also do a very good job with delivery orders, go above and beyond with clever packaging to keep it all fresh - much less plastic than other places. A good buzz in the atmosphere on a busy night.
What they could do better: The restaurants popularity is a bit of a curse at times. Very busy and often long queues. There have been times where I've had to do a few laps of the restaurant to find somewhere to sit after ordering and service staff do not actively help to seat you. The layout is also not great as you more often than not have to sit in very close proximity to strangers - fine for eating but not great if you want to have a good conversation without other people listening in - also I've sat next to loud/rude customers here (not the restaurants fault though). My other suggestion would be to provide nicer bathroom facilities, in 2023 there is no excuse for a restaurant this successful to have anything but modern, clean bathrooms especially considering people come...
Read moreThese Lanzhou beef noodles have been on the bucket list for a while now, and my wife and I have finally set aside time to visit 1915 Lanzhou Beef Noodles based in Burwood. We were intrigued by the fact that this restaurant openly advertises that theyâre halal so that gave us the peace of mind to try it out.
Firstly, the customer service isnât the best. The individual who took our order at the counter seemed miserable which doesnât project a great image on the restaurant as first impressions matter to me. Secondly, the tables were still sticky and dirty, thatâs expected as the broth/sauces do travel quite literally everywhere when youâre slurping away but that also highlights the lack of staff needed to efficiently maintain cleanliness and customer satisfaction.
We ordered the beef noodles, and the braised beef noodles, both with noodles with a 0.3cm diameter. The food came out quickly and notably, the broth was outstanding! The flavour was potent and authentically Chinese and the noodles were âal denteâ and delicious. The level of chilli wasnât overpowering and blended well with the flavours of the broth.
Thereâs clearly room for improvement but the beef noodles were absolutely amazing, and hence, will definitely be revisiting this...
