My visit to this cafe yesterday was a very disappointing experience overall. We arrived around noon and initially found ourselves a bit uncertain about what to do since there was no one available to guide us. Eventually, a staff member arrived and handed us menus, instructing us to choose any available table. At that point, only one table was unoccupied, so we settled in, anticipating someone to take our order. Unfortunately, no one approached us. After a while, we took matters into our own hands and placed our order at the counter. It would have been helpful if had informed us earlier. The ambiance of the cafe was rather ordinary. We ordered two dishes and two beverages, but it took a considerable 25 minutes for our coffee and hot chocolate to arrive. Although the flavors were enjoyable, it was not at all hot.
Our food order took even longer, and we observed new folks receiving food in about 10-15 minutes, with some even having their orders taken at their tables. It was only after a 30-minute wait and my inquiry at the counter that our food finally arrived. Sadly, the Dumpling Soup was below par, and the Eggs Benedict were merely passable. The standout was the croissant, which was deliciously flaky and deserving of a 5/5 rating. What disappointed us most was the lack of acknowledgment or apology for the service hiccups. It felt as if they were doing a favor on us. There are numerous cafes in the area that offer superior food and service. While the coffee and croissant were good, it's definitely not worth the wait or the horrible customer service and the...
Read moreCoquettishly I peer through the courtyard and into the colourfully decorated atrium of the Markus bar and Cafe. From the street the stench of Chatswood is parted by the aroma of fresh coffee, croissants and schnitzel. A true cerebral Ménage à trois.
Before I have even lowered my face diaper the waitress approaches in an itinerant fashion. Darting from table to table she whips a notepad from her belt, as if skilfully unsheathing a blade, I chuckle to myself ‘bravo chevalier´. Her presence is punctual but endearing respectfully noting every detail of my order, salmon benedict with a side of chicken, before gliding away.
I shield my eyes. The hollandaise, such a bright contrast against the grey Chatswood backdrop, pleasantly blinds me. I feel for the plate, as a child would stumble excitedly through the early morning darkness to a gift pile on Christmas Day, thankfully I find my meal. Uncontrollably I smear the eggs across my face dripping yolk to the floor before leaving in disgrace.
The coffee superfluous, the eggs godly and the atmosphere prodigious. Highly...
Read moreThis cafe is so good we had breakfast here the two days we were in Sydney. The shining stars of Cafe Markus are the staff! All wonderful, super helpful and happy. They were constantly busy both days but you never felt unattended or like you were a bother. They are definitely what makes the atmosphere here perfect. First day the coffee machine broke but that gave us the option to try their iced latte and it did not disappoint! The omelette was super tasty and not over the top with flavours the star of the dish was definitely the sausage. The French toast was a mouthgasm of flavours, I personally don't like eating flowers :-) but they were a pretty touch. Second day we got our coffees and they were amazing definitely worth waiting for. The dumpling soup stupendous, plump and tasty, so good. The big brekkie was beyond value for money, the haloumi was perfectly done! My only gripe is that this cafe is in Sydney and not Melbourne. We will be back on our next trip thank you for the food and service!
I forgot to take photos as I was too excited...
