I have been Chat Thai long customer at its Haymarket and The Rocks shops for maybe around 8 years now. Though their customer service is not the best, I still think it is quite acceptable. Today I went to their The Galeria Victoria shop (maybe the fifth or sixth times) and Lord behold this is one of the worst if not THE WORST takeaway shop I have ever attended to.
Me and my family came around 10.30AM without knowing they would have opened later at 11AM, so one of the girl told me to come back at 11AM which I obliged to. I then came back around 10.55AM and waited on the line as the first customer wanting to order. There are 6 of their staff having lunch and I thought they would have finished by the time shop due to open at 11AM. The queue grew longer and by 11.04AM there was no sign whether all of those 6 staff want to open the shop or not, not until I asked them from a far and one of the girl just raised her hand to tell me to come back in 5 minutes. How come an employee or those employees thinking it is acceptable not to open the shop on time at 11AM and just enjoying eating their lunch while laughing and smirking each other while at the same time the customers waiting on the line and grows by minutes.
By 11.08AM one of the girl approached the cashier and without a single word she then served me, I then had to tell her what I want without any response whatsoever and she just gave me the receipt. She looked very annoyed and giving me a look as if I do not deserve to be served as a customer. I waited until all my food orders are done and proceeded to ask her if she was annoyed with me when I asked her what time the shop open while she was eating. She was surprised with my question, knowing she was giving a horrible attitude and still without saying a word, looking at me with the look which I find very disturbing. I said to her, her attitude was really unacceptable and ahe tried to get some support from her friend at the cashier, both of them talking in their native Thai languange smiling and laughing as if they are trying to ignore me.
Her name is Yao Yao from the name tag she was wearing. Chat Thai should not ever hire her and her friend in the first place as their attitude are really unacceptable towards its customer. I WILL NOT ever come back to this shop or any other shop belongs to Chat Thai. And the best thing is, I told her, everything was recorded on their CCTV, all the interaction she and her friend had with me and I have my receipt to prove that their first customer was served at 11.09AM today. HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED to anyone wanting to have Thai food in the city with this brand. Like the other reviewer said, if you DO NOT want to get HUMILIATED as a customer please DO NOT...
Read moreAs an avid thai food enthusiast, I was extremely disappointed with the lack of quality at this establishment. It had almost been a month since I had eaten any thai and hence I had begun suffering from deficiency. Furthermore I had just sat through 2 hours and 9 minutes of a film with lack of character development and a plot which made so sense whilst eating McDonald's hotcakes that did not taste as good as they once did, so you could imagine my excitement when I came across Chat Thai in the Galeries. Although I had never tried Chat Thai before, I had heard many great things from friends who strongly recommended their food. I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai (or "Padt Thai", as it was stated on the menu), and although the uptake time was very quick, I was shocked at the state of my meal because it was in fact NOT traditional pad thai at all. The noodles utilised in the dish were extremely dry and the bean sprouts raw (was like you cooked vermicelli noodles to an amateur level then forgot to cook the bean sprouts so they just got chucked on top at the end), and although this wasn't a hUGe issue, there was no pad thai sauce and as a result made the dish drier and taste like nothing more than cooking oil. In my opinion the chicken was also very lacking however my friend did disagree on this and said the chicken was good so I won't bash you for that. Despite all this though, there is always time to come back from being in a ditch, and wake up and improve on performance. Other Chat Thai locations seem to have gained good reviews but it looks like at this branch the passion for thai food and cooking has been lost in the pursuit for profit, and that has been reflected in the products which come out of your kitchens. And yes, maybe the other dishes are better (I mean I've never tried them), however to not be able to create a traditional Pad Thai is very concerning as it is Thailand's national dish (it literally says thai in the name). I recommend that the Galeries' Chat Thai management should visit Bai Tong Thai Tempe, the number one Thai restaurant in Sydney, and taste their food. In their small restaurant, there is much passion and pride within their work, and I have no doubt you will be blown away at the difference in quality and come away from the experience knowing that a lot more work will need to be put in in order to improve your franchise and help it regain any former glory (even though I am now reconsidering if it ever...

This is the worst Tam tang I have ever had entire sydney. I have no idea why the chef in charge on Sunday 28/01/24 do this. The food appears is sucks. Nobody’s do this in Sydney. The chef should have ethical thinking. I considered this is a ripped off ………………………………………………………………… “This is the responds for the owner comment below. google review does not allow me to respond to original owner’s answer. “ 29/01/24
Hi owner. Thank you for taking your time to responds to my review. You have been open from 2002 and have no complaints about this “ Tam Tang “ thai dish. So I am assuming you are not Thai? Thats okay. However I have attached photo for your reference that should be the way this dish should be. I have been living here in Sydney for 10 years and this is the first review I gave. I obviously do not want to ruin your business but the chef in charge that day did really rough job. I just cant ignore it. Can you please show my message to him / her. Its seems like he/she only slice the cucumbers put in a bowl and mix all the ingredients together where there should be small slices and put all the ingredients in mortar and mix them well. By the way. Thats dish is tasteless. I highly recommend you try “ Tam tang “ somewhere else here in Sydney. Nobody does this.
