Have Chinese noodle house ok the list for a while and finally made it in for dumplings! I’m sure the noodles are great too but the dumplings were recommended. Food ordered: Pork and chive steamed buns, pork and prawn steamed dumpling, pork and chive pancake (or kind of a pie), bbq pork fried rice. I like to try steamed dumplings as I feel they give the best representation of quality for a dumpling. The steamed buns were a bit too chewy and thick for my liking but the filling had good flavour. The dumplings were solid. Not the best I’ve ever had but a great all round for Sydney standards. The pork pancake pie thing was a surprise. Ordered in a bit of a rush but it was a treat. Crispy flaky dough with the same type of dumpling filling. I poured the chilli on this and it was great. The fried rice was nothing notable. Did the job at least. The portions were decent for the price. Although I’m still in price shock these last few months with everyone’s prices going up. $62ish dollars for 4 dishes and 3ppl. It was nice that they still serve hot tea for free at least! Dumplings are always best enjoyed in a big group for best value. Ambience: It’s mostly outdoor seating here with only a few tables inside for 2ppl. It was a sunny but windy day and wasn’t too bad outside. The tables lacked much cutlery and napkin options but fortunately there was a the classic condiments ready to go. The service was helpful if not a bit pushy as a typical Chinatown venue would be. The food arrived quickly but the dumplings themselves took the longest. With so many options around I’ll be checking out a few more places before returning.

We came as a large group hence we split the order in three and shared among friends for three tables. They are still using manual way (paper based) for food ordering, which is a tad inconvenient for a large group. We waited for a bit for our food to get served. We had stir fried green veggies with garlic, braised pork, noodles with stir fried tomato and egg, handmade pan fried dumplings with egg chive, handmade boiling dumplings with pork chive and handmade boiling dumplings with egg chive. They all came in generous portion with decent price. Could not fault the food quality with such decent price and portion. However, our order was mixed up with the order from our friends’ table, which was frustrating as they simply put the dish on the table without checking the table of the order. We had to ask the server again for one of our dish as it didn’t get served after a long wait. Other than that, the place stank for a bit while we were waiting for our food. I reckon the ventilation wasn’t good in the room. We got 5% off from bill if we pay with cash though, which saved us a lot as we ordered quite a number of dishes for sharing.

We went to have dinner here on a Friday evening. It’s a tiny restaurant with tables and seats packed up inside but also have larger tables outside. Wait wasn’t too bad (about 5min or less). The lady at the door took our order before our table was ready, which was good. We got our noodle shortly after we were seated. Really nice Northern Chinese food at reasonable price. We had the Xinjiang noodle with chicken, Manchurian sweet and sour pork and the special braised egg plant. All dishes had mild and gentle flavours and very oily in a nice way. The sweet and sour pork was extremely crispy and chewy with strong vinegar flavour - highly highly recommend if you like sour sweet flavour. But watch out when it’s hot as you may inhale the strong vinegar. The egg plant seem to have been sugar-coated and deep fried, which is really yummy. The noodle also tasty! Huge portion so for two of us we had quite a bit of leftover to take away. Paid 60 cents for 2 take away containers. Recommend getting a bowl of rice ($3) and have the rice + sauce from the Xinjiang noodle + bit of chillie oil. Yum!

'Chinese Noodle House' is conveniently located right next to 'Chinese Noodle Restaurant', so if you have a hankering for noodles of the Chinese variety, this is the correct place to be. The result of this rivalry is some of the cheapest, tastiest Chinese eats I've had. To be <500m from central station, and have a succulent Chinese meal for ~$15 in Sydney is one of the best deals you'll get in a city famous for charging the same price for 2 coffees. We had a dumpling soup, mapo-tofu, and steamed beef buns. All were delicious. My only complaints are that there wasn't table water. There was table green tea, but an unlimited water option would be nice. Secondly, when I paid, I was asked to confirm the receipt was correct before paying. The receipt was in Chinese, and unfortunately, I'm a white man, so had no clue what was going on. Luckily the prices were so good, I really didn't care, but if the meal was 50% more expensive, I'd probably want to be able to verify the order was correct. Excellent restaurant. For any foodie interested in value, this is a must.

When the waitress laughs at keeping 1.5m apart cause of covid you know you're in for a wild ride. Luckily for them the food is decent. It was also lightning quick too. There's a decent selection of naturally vegan dishes. We got the eggplant dumplings as the hero dish. Now I'm not much of a dumplings guy and knowing there was eggplant I wasn't confident of liking it. I was right. The eggplant filling was too sweet and the pastry too thick. It felt like I was eating a dessert dumpling. So I don't really feel it was fair to rate it being so prescient of myself. The salt n pepper tofu however was right up my alley. It had celery which I generally don't like. The rest was the, salty, garlicky, Szechuan spice really deep fried tofu I loved. I wish I ordered the garlic cucumber to even it up but the stir fried bokchoy and mushies were a good substitute. I was going to give it an 3 a lot about this place that's just ok. Including their pandemic attitude. But I really liked the two dishes I had so much so I'd come back.

Quite possibly the worst Chinese restaurant I've ever been to. Our dreadful experience started off when the waitress/manager asked us to move in order to make space for others. This is always a no-no. If you are given a table when you are seated you should never be moved from there. The food itself is cheap. Really cheap. So cheap that there were only 3 small pieces of beef in our beef noodle dish. The vegetables looked like there were cooked by an amateur. And the Xiaolongbao is the worst I've ever had - the exterior pastry was much too thick. Yet the place was packed (mainly with tourists it seemed). You know a Chinese restaurant isn't the best when there aren't any Chinese people eating there. Running a small business is never easy. But you can always tell how much a business owner cares about their customers based on how polite they are to them and by how good of a product they try to provide... You get what you pay for I suppose.
