I have been dying to try some birria tacos for years so when I found this place I was super excited!! When my friends and I arrived it was already difficult to find a place to sit as it is so tiny, and where we ended up sitting near the window was super uncomfortable as the table was really low while the chairs were tall, forcing me to lean over my food like a rat or something. The chairs also felt very low quality, almost as if i leaned too far forward it would break. The food arrived after around 10 minutes or so while the drinks that we ordered arrived well past the time we had already finished our food, which ruined the full dining experience. The birria tacos themselves were somewhat underwhelming, as they were pretty bland and nothing too special. If you want flavours try it with the salsa verde sauce - the green one. It gives a kick. The elotes we ordered were a pleasant surprise which I would definitely recommend everyone try at least once. The drinks we ordered were also on the underwhelming side, having a strange soury aftertaste, but I was a fan of the lychee frappe we ordered. Everything was also a bit overpriced in my opinion in relation to the quality and quantity of what we received. Overall it was not a bad experience but I would probably only return for their elotes, or to try their birria ramen which piqued...
Read more2/5⭐️ Today I finally got to try the Birria Tacos that are viral on my Instagram! This is the Beef Birria Ramen Pack from Chololo in Newtown. It comes with 3 beef tacos and this bowl of soupy ramen. You dip the taco into the broth to add juiciness and flavour, and BOY is this fun but messy. The tacos themselves had succulent beef and oozy cheese, which I loved. But it would have been nice to have some more vegetables to add some freshness against the salt. The ramen noodles were so long. But the soup was wayyyy too salty. Honestly I’d rather eat the tacos on their own. And by the end I was so so thirsty. I wouldn’t want this salty soup again.
The other big issue was that they didn’t provide any option for tap water, only bottled water which you had to purchase. Having cups and water in a restaurant should be a baseline, especially when serving up such salty food. Also all the containers and cutlery were disposable which felt really unsustainable and counterintuitive when we were dining in. There was essentially no service, you had to go up to the counter to order, and they did not provide you with the cutlery when delivering the meal; we had to get up and find the disposable forks ourselves. Plus the staff weren’t particularly friendly when we asked about the...
Read moreHit this place up following a teenage suggestion from a Tik Tok recommendation for the Birria Taco Ramen also grabbed a Katsu Burrito Bowl and iced tea. Have to say the Birria taco when eaten straight away and quickly (because they get super soggy and fall apart) were great, super cheesy and tender beef. The Ramen was kind of like a super concentrated, thick beef soup which felt like too much gravy powder was used (not sure) and we couldn’t finish it as it was too overpowering but an interesting combo to try. Grab a box of their tissues you’ll need it for the dripping of everything from this dish.
Forget the Katsu bowl. Felt like someone had some deep fried schnitzel and chucked it on gluey, overcooked rice with some mayo and salsa, not worth it. If you’re planning on going there for a date, don’t. This is a hole in the wall style, sit, eat and run place feels a bit unclean and needs a...
