Happened to try this new Indonesian restaurant today at Kingsford, located a few metres north of the old Kingsford roundabout. This restaurant is actually a branch of the famous restaurant in Medan and Jakarta, Cin Yen. It serves tons of classic and authentic Indonesian, particularly dishes from Medan, North Sumatra. For opener, I ordered the Kwetiau Polos, which is a stir-fried Cheung Fun dish served with green chilli sauce. This dish appears to be simple but absolutely packed with complicated smoky and peppery flavours. Reminds me of the best Plain Char Kway Teaw I had in Medan. Ordered the second dish which is the famous Ayam Goreng Aceh, a perfectly marinated fried chicken dish, infused with tons of complex Indonesian spices, served with this umami gravy sauce. Absolutely loved this dish. But the dish of the day gotta be the Samcan Goreng, which is this aromatic chunks of pork belly presented on an elegant and beautiful ceramic swan platter, served with ultra flavoursome green chilli sauce. Utterly gobsmacked with the powerful acidic chili sauce which is so unique and magical. I could easily say I had one of the best and most satisfying Indonesian food experience in Sydney today. Truly gave me joy and I walked out with a happy tummy. 100% will return to try other mouth-watering dishes this restaurant...
Read moreI went to Cin Yen for the first time for take-out and enjoyed the food immensely. My favourite dishes were the Medan friend chicken both spicy and non-spicy but all of the other dishes (fish and prawn curries, seafood flat rice noodles, crispy pork belly and nasi goreng) were excellent and you can tell that they are made with love, care and many years of experience. My family were very impressed by the food also and kept commenting upon how delicious the food was. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and take care of you. I was also buying a large order of take-out (i.e. about 12+ dishes but the order was made efficiently and without any problems and without any drop in quality. Prices for food are extremely reasonable - in fact for what I paid to comfortably feed a family of 16, there was plenty of leftovers and the total bill was a fraction of the price of most other restaurants with notably inferior quality food. Will definitely be going back again in future as this place is a true gem and more than exceeded my expectations from reading...
Read moreWe visited this restaurant for a quick lunch on Sunday recently and ordered a few of their signature dishes i.e. the fried pork in sweet & sour sauce, the Medan-style stir-fried rice noodle w/ egg and the stir-fried roast crispy pork with green veggie (similar to kana moo grob in Thai restaurant). All dishes are of good quality and prepared in authentic Indo-Chinese and Medan style cooking. We especially love the humble stir-fried rice noodle (kue tiaw) with egg which has smoky wok-hei aroma and subtle less soy-sauce taste.
The ambience of the place was good since the place has reasonable space and good light. The customer service from floor staff was also reasonable. Prices on menu are good value for your money considering good quality and reasonable portion of the dishes. You can pay by credit cards and will pay between 1% to 2% additional surcharge depending on your spending level. This is not an ideal practice, but since their dishes' prices are quite good value for money, I would not...
