My sister in law and I came for a girls night and when we entered it took a good 5 minutes to get someone's attention, and then the waitress wanted to put us on a table we had to wait for her to clear, even though there was 3 other tables free (and another waiter pointed this out to her). It was not a massive deal but it was quite cold that night so it kind of tainted the start for us.
For entree's we got some antipasto - which came with two pieces of sourdough accompanied with olive oil (and no balsamic???), wagyu beef salami and onion jam and provolone. You can't really go wrong with antipasto , so that was pretty good.
The polenta chips were really nice, I would recommend!
The cocktails were good also.
The let down was the pasta. We got the burnt butter gnocchi which was very bland, and the vodka pasta which had a "chilli" powder that didn't even taste like chilli but more of a curry powder? The onion was also extremely overpowering - the dish was smothered in onions. The waiter came to check on us and noticed we barely made a dent in the pasta and insinuated we can't handle chilli powder? That was a bit insulting because we are both very good with our spices, it was simply that the dish did not taste good lol.
Then when we tried to get someone's attention to pay the bill ($150...) we couldn't get a waiter to even look at us as they were all busy having a gossip session at the counter.
It's a shame we were really looking forward to coming here as the reviews are quite good and the location is stunning. Hopefully this was just a bad night for them as there is quite a bit of hype circulating about this place and we were left a bit...
Read moreI 'used' to love eating here. But no longer after my experience on Saturday 8th Feb 2025. This place has really lost it's touch with service and food quality. Here's my experience:
For entree we ordered bread, a plate of salami and a burata salad. Now I'm Italian and this restaurant is Italian and we know that all 3 entree dishes should of been brought out at the same time so it can be eaten altogether. But no. On Saturday they brought out the bread. 15 minutes later they brought out the plate of salami and then 15 minutes later brought out the burrata salad. Empty Martini glasses weren't cleared from the table after each serving. The mains didn't get served till 20 minutes after the the entrees were cleared. The prawns in the pasta were not fresh prawns. They seemed like they were frozen from a packet. I wouldn't be surprised if the muscles were frozen from a packet also. It was only 30 minutes after I ate that I had violent diarrhoea. Absolutely awful. Overall, the service was not personal. It was like a fast food chain. Get you in and get you out. Not attentive enough. Not what you want for the price point of this restaurant.
So if anyone is thinking to go to Giro. Don't be fooled. It's not what it used to be. So hard to find good Italian food in the...
Read moreOutstanding! What a beautiful night we had! Came here on Thursday night with my friend and we had the best dinner in a long time. The staff, food, drinks - everything just exceptional! I must say the staff has been absolutely lovely and very accommodating from the beginning. I had a couple of changes with my booking and nothing was an issue! The food - wow! Definitely worth to check out the specials as well. I pretty much studied the menu the entire day but when we got there and I've heard there is truffle gnocchi - I couldn't resist. However we started with a delicious burrata and some sourdough to share. Extremely yummie! The bread was super nice and soft and I love how they serve it with some olive oil - just like in Italy. Main course I had the special (Truffle Gnocchi) and my friend had the Spaghetti cacio e pepe! Just amazing, really! Dessert I can recommend a nice glass of Frangelico on ice 😋 I love how they serve it with a slice of lime. Big thank you to Beth, our beautiful waitress and also I think it was Andrea (?) - you really made a 'normal' Thursday night out super special! Thanks so much! Can't believe I live in Cronulla and never came here. Best dine in experience in a long time! Well...
