I had to update my review. It was formally 5 stars as I have been a regular customer for years. What a tricky time we are in, everyone is working really really hard to try to make sure that businesses can survive. With this in mind, as soon as I was able to I telephone sealevel to book my table. $220 for two, quite expensive but really understandable considering how hard it must be to make money. The lady on the phone was pleasant, helpful and really nice to speak to especially considering how stressful it is currently. She booked me in and told me they would confirm closer to the time.
48 hours before I was due to go to my dinner reservation I received a message saying they would like me to confirm. Of course, considering the climate. Then the gentleman, Blake, let me know that he would need full payment immediately. What?
I called back just to let them know that this was not something I had ever been made aware of before or when I made the booking. Blake did not have time for this. "Do you want the table or not?" I replied that I did, I was just reluctant to pay $220 for something I hadn't eaten, or even experienced. Anything can happen in a 48 hour period, particularly currently.
This evidently rubbed Blake up the wrong way, he was angry, rude, dismissive and unpleasant. Tensions are running high at the moment and so it's really important everyone tries to be respectful and nice, so I didn't really appreciate him laughing at me down the phone up to the point where I was reduced to tears.
I offered that perhaps a deposit was a better option, a fraction of the full amount to insentivise me to come in (I have not intention of cancelling but I appreciate the position they are in). Not good enough. So I offered to pay the full amount as I wanted the table for a special event. I asked if I could call back and pay when I got home and had my wallet, after work (I am an essential worker, so I don't keep my things on me all the time). I was given two and a half hours or I could forget it. And also questioned as to why I don't keep my wallet ln me all the time. None of your business Blake.
To sum up, I received a phone call from a random mobile phone number telling me to pay $220 immediately or I would loose my booking. When I questioned this I was berated, belittled and made to feel horrible.
I won't be returning to my former favourite restaurant, and I urge you to be careful booking here too. I am conscious of the gravity of writing a poor review in the current climate, but this experience...
Read moreHere I go again - long weekend early October 2025 and we had another exceptional dinner. Our lovely waitress Jess (getting married in two weeks and all the best!) looked after us with great skill. We had oysters and squid to start and both were delicious. For main my husband had grilled snapper with dill, pine nuts and a beautiful zesty sauce which he pronounced as one of the best meals he’s had all year, which is quite rare for him. I revelled in lobster mornay - absolutely first class. Thank you. We both had dessert which is rare and only happens in very good restaurants. And yes you can BYO bottled wine which helps with the bottom dollar! Beautiful meal and a wonderful night.
Places like this are few and far between - consistently great food, they stick to the classics, the service is deferential and the location is outstanding. Plus they allow BYO bottled wine! We come from Canberra and look forward to dining here and every time it’s been outstanding. Tonight I did my usual - the double mornay - oysters and lobster. So lovely and really savoured every mouthful. My husband had pork belly and duck - a bit funny cause he’s at a seafood restaurant but he enjoyed both meals although the sauces and purée were very similar on both meals so probably wouldn’t do that again. But we had a memorable meal on every count. Thank you for staying true and keeping up your high standards as at May 2024.
Even better than the last time we came and that's saying something. Faultless down to earth service from Jade, thanks for enhancing our evening. The chefs are extremely skilled at adding to seafood to make it shine, with a mixture of old favourites like oyster mornay (fantastic mornay sauce) and modern fresh dishes like the Mooloolaba prawns. The view is second to none no matter the weather and you can BYO bottled wine! How good is this place? Everything was delicious and fresh and we had a lovely...
Read morePerched at Sealevel restaurant, the coastal breeze gently tousled our group – Simon, Ryan, Luke, Adam, and myself. The weariness from conquering a challenging 25km hike seemed to dissipate with every sip of the crisp Gin and Tonic in hand. Our seafood platter, a feast fit for champions, sprawled across the table like a maritime cornucopia.
As we delved into our culinary rewards, the sun dipped lower on the horizon, casting a warm, golden glow over the vast ocean that stretched out before us. The rhythmic symphony of waves crashing against the rocks out front provided an enchanting soundtrack to our tales of the trail.
Laughter mingled with the clinking of glasses, creating an atmosphere of pure camaraderie. The Gin and Tonics, adorned with wedges of fresh lime, added a zesty touch to our gastronomic adventure. Each sip seemed to be a toast to the triumphs of our hike and the enduring bonds of friendship that had carried us through the arduous journey.
Sealevel, with its panoramic views and delectable offerings, became the canvas upon which our post-hike celebration unfolded. The salty sea air, the taste of the sea in our dishes, and the botanical notes of the gin – it was a sensory experience that transcended the ordinary.
As the afternoon wore on, the lights of the restaurant began to twinkle like stars against the deepening twilight. Our shared stories flowed effortlessly, weaving a tapestry of memories that would forever be associated with this seaside haven. Sealevel, with its blend of coastal charm and culinary excellence, had not just served as a venue for our celebration; it had become an integral part of the story we were crafting, a place where adventure and gastronomy converged in a symphony of flavors...
