Went with a group of 15 for a live music night. Staff came up to us in the middle of the night with a small bottle of some spirit informing us that itās a licensed venue. We had no idea what they were talking about. Some minutes later security politely asked us to leave as a bottle was found near our tables. We asked for CCTV to be checked because luckily there was one above our table and it wasnāt us. Obviously not being sure they let us stay. The way the owner confronted our group initially was confusing and rude. Most of our group was drinking water, which in hindsight, seems like a good reason to get rid of a large group at a very busy hour. Who ever it was should have been kicked out, if you donāt know then donāt accuse a large group. We stopped buying the very overpriced food and drinks at that point. $40 for a sandwich and drink is a bit much even for Sydney.
Edit Firstly, I am not annoyed about the decision but how it was handled. If you want to accuse patrons of something they didnāt do that is your prerogative but it was handled in a bad manner. Secondly, you bending your rules regarding group size and setting is your issue, itās unrelated, and very defensive. We confirm the size was okay as well prior to coming in. We where sitting around three round tables in a shared space (like the front of a jazz bar), that was also the walk way to the rest of the pub with people there when we arrived around 30 minutes after opening (it was already busy). Halfway through the night you told us we couldnāt have three tables anymore. So you moved one table away to the side, where it wasnāt used. It was to the side empty for the rest of the time we where there. And a table behind us was also free. You first told us the bottle was found under one of our tables. Then security told us it was directly under the chair closest to the walkway. Thatās why I said near our table because I donāt know what your story is. I never mentioned another group but yes it could have been. Yes, I mentioned most of the group was not drinking but I meant at the point you came over. Saying (if any) in regards to us purchasing drinks is a lie. One person didnāt drink at all and most had stopped purchases when you came over but most of us purchased two-three drinks plus a meal. I wish it was seen on your CCTV because youād see it wasnāt us. If it was one of our group that person should be kicked out. I had a bad experience being accused of something I didnāt do at your establishment. You could have said apologies for that but instead decided to be defensive and unempathetic, like you where on the night and are for the other negitive reviews on here. If it was our group and we where asked to leave politely, Iād have no issue. That was...

Jolene's Sydney is not just a bar; it's an experience that keeps me coming back week after week. I've been a regular for two fantastic years, and each visit is as enjoyable as the first. The exceptional service is the heartbeat of this place. Whether the bar is buzzing with energy or in a more relaxed state, the staff consistently treat customers like long-lost mates. Their genuine friendliness creates an atmosphere that feels like a home away from home.
The drinks at Jolene's are nothing short of amazing. The bartenders are wizards and will always help with recommendations, or making you something completely new (or classic, if that's what you're into!)
Live music at Jolene's is a highlight of every visit. The local talent they showcase is extraordinary. The intimate setting creates an experience that you won't find in many other places in the Sydney CBD. The decision not to book huge groups is also a game-changer. It not only allows more people to enjoy the space but also prevents any disruptions from large, loud groups, preserving the welcoming ambiance.
Oh, and let's not forget about Jolene's impressive American whisky collection, a treasure trove for any whisky enthusiast. Their carefully curated selection transports you straight to the heart of Tennessee, adding an authentic touch to the Nashville-inspired atmosphere. Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe were excited to try this place, so went and booked a table on line. In the comments I requested a booth and received an email back stating that they could āmoveā the booking to a booth but booths attract a minimum spend of $250 for 2 hours! I was also required to give my CC details to secure the booking. I politely turned it down and requested a stage area table (with no min spend). On arrival we were surprised to be escorted to our āboothā. I explained that I had switched my booking to a stage table due to the min. spend but was told āonce we order food and drinks, the $250 minimum can be easily reachedā. This did not sit well with us as weād already eaten and werenāt planning on binge drinking in a two hour session. I asked to swap for a stage table but was told he didnāt have any left and that heād ālet it go this timeā - I was dumbfounded. Seriously how had this become my issue?
After finally sitting, the waitress asked for our drink order and when we refused to hand over a CC to start a tab we were told to go and order at the bar.
After grabbing some drinks we found it near impossible to hear anyone speak (including when trying to order at the bar) as the band were ridiculously loud. To say that this place was hard work would be an understatement.
The bar itself was a pretty good set up but having some black and white pics on the wall doesnāt really constitute it being a country themed bar.
Side note - Weāre also curious how staff are placing Google reviews here. Simon Hopkins is staff (the email was from him and he is named on their website) so unsure how he can review his own place - twice?!
All up I would not recommend this bar. There are many other themed bars in Sydney that run rings around this...
