I recently visited a halal Lanzhou beef noodle restaurant and had the signature beef noodles. The experience was overall very positive, with a few areas for improvement.
The beef noodles were satisfying and full of flavor. The noodles themselves were different from the usual – slightly thick and clearly hand-pulled, which gave them a pleasantly chewy texture. The beef was tender, though I felt the portion could have included a few more pieces. A highlight was the chili paste available on the table; it elevated the flavors beautifully, adding depth and just the right amount of heat.
Service was fast and efficient, which made for a smooth dining experience. The environment was decent, with a clean enough dining area and good lighting. One particularly interesting feature was the open glass kitchen where you can watch the chefs hand-pull the noodles — a unique and engaging touch that adds authenticity.
However, the cleanliness around the seating area could be improved; I noticed some rubbish on the seat near where I was sitting, which detracted slightly from the overall impression.
That said, it was a tasty meal in a convenient setting, and I'd definitely consider returning. With a little more attention to detail, especially in terms of cleanliness and portioning, this place could easily become a standout spot for halal...
Read moreWe had lunch on weekend at this popular hand-pulled noodle restaurant in Burwood recently. We ordered the lamb soup with bread (yang rou poumo) and the wide oil-spilled noodle with braised beef (you po mian). Both dishes are good Xian style dishes and we especially like their wider, chewy noodle with its balanced sauce and tasty beef cubes (I think they maybe beef brisket cuts) 👍. We also ordered a pickled radish for side-dish and it was quite good as well for cutting through the rich noodle sauce. Please note that their portion size are generous and so, you'll likely feel very full with one dish / person.
The ambience is average since the space is not huge and tightly decorated with dining tables. Customer services are also reasonable with staff members communicating in functioning English. You can pay with all credit cards and pay additional 1% surcharge per the cashier's claim, though there's no written information put near the cashier area for...

The signature Lanzhou hand-pulled noodles were authentic and served very quickly, which was impressive. However, the lamb skewers had a very strong gamey taste, to the point where I questioned their freshness. This contrast made the meal inconsistent.
Service: ★★☆☆☆ (2/5)
The service really needs improvement. On one occasion, I pointed out to the front desk that a table seemed to have finished their meal, only to be told dismissively that “finishing doesn’t mean leaving.” On another visit, while I was still paying, a staff member abruptly stepped in front of me to talk over my transaction. The attitude felt unprofessional, impatient, and quite disorganised. It gave the impression of very low emotional intelligence.
Atmosphere: ★★☆☆☆ (2/5)
The dining area itself is functional, but the chaotic service created a stressful and unpleasant atmosphere. Instead of feeling welcomed, I felt rushed...
