I was not allowed to sit inside the tea bar as I was using my laptop. The owner informed me they have a "no work" environment and I was "very strongly encouraged" not to sit inside with my device. I had been sitting outside and wanted to move, but the owner made it pretty clear I was not welcome to.
While I see the owner's good intentions, she is making some pretty brazen assumptions about her customers. I am sure if I was reading a book or on my phone (both of which can be "work") she would have had no problem with letting me sit inside. Conversely, if I was using my laptop to talk to friends or family overseas, would that be work? According to her, yes. What about a group of people having a business meeting? Again, that's technically work, but I doubt she would exclude them from sitting inside. Work and leisure take many forms these days and it's very arrogant to assume you know what customers are doing and to shame them for minding their own business in your establishment. Where I work, we are proud to provide a calming environment for customers to work if they wish and we are grateful for they business, as they often continue to order things throughout the day.
If the owner is so deeply offended by the sight of a computer, I would strongly recommend she put up a sign which clearly indicates computers are not allowed instead of conning customers into spending $15 on a glass of tea and then telling them they aren't welcome. At the very least the owner could have thanked me for my feedback (which I gave politely) even if she had no intention of changing anything. Instead she told me there are "lots of other places" I can go if I wanted to work on my laptop....

Hats off to the owner and her immense passion towards her products.
She greeted with such kindness and knowledge and instantly invites you in to her store.
I ordered the matcha cheesecake and single origin matcha tea and let me tell you… absolute heaven!!!
The cheesecake was so smooth and subtle with its flavours and texture. Not too sweet yet the perfect balance between the layers of goodness.
This was my first time having a matcha without milk and wow was I shocked at how much I enjoyed this. This truly allows you to appreciate the quality of the matcha and how pure and smooth it is. It was not bitter at all and didn’t require any added sweetness (coming from an absolute sweet tooth).
What an experience, highly recommend Ms Cattea in Potts Point.
