Don't go. A bit of an institution for the area, service is simple and minimal (you can't order from the touch screen any more and it's not obvious where to order anymore and the person who might take your order is on the inconvenient far side of the bar). Food is generally ok with handmade noodles and dumplings being the specialty. Handmade noodles on average are more consistent. Pan fried dumplings are ok. Expect some variation between sittings since handmade food depends on who was in the kitchen making it. Questionably though, I had xiaolongbao which was likely steamed from frozen and had freezer burn and rips and tears in the skin and was missing any soupiness inside, and I asked myself why I still visit here when they clearly give no cares about what they're pushing out. Condiments are self serve at the table, but they don't clean or fix the bottles, the soy and vinegar are sticky and the pourer was twisted badly in my vinegar bottle and couldn't pour anything more than a drop at a time last night. The lid on the chilli oil had a thick, dried, dusty and sticky crust, clearly never having been wiped clean in months, just filthy. I tried coming in to support them as a local over the last year but if they've taken it from minimal to not a care in the world then that's not a place I will ever care...
Read moreThis is a humble family establishment. The meals are what you expect from a Chinese family meal. There is nothing fancy and it returns to the basics of Chinese family cooking. The generous servings of the noodles will satisfy you. The beef dumplings are juicy and authentically Chinese. For approximately $10, you will get a decent meal. If they could improve the hygiene of the place, I will give it five stars!
I recommend you go during less busy time.
I am downgrading this place to three stars, because:
The staff did not cope well during the peak lunch time hour. They got the orders wrong. Customers were left waiting at the door. The kitchen and wait staff coordination needs improvement. I saw dirty dishes were left on the bench where they hand make the buns and dumplings. They really need a proper ordering system.
Their noodles are not hand made as they claim to be. I saw one of the staff took out a stainless steel basin with pre-made noodle dough that appear to be done through a machine. The noodle was simply stretched out by hand.
Unless you speak Chinese Mandarin, they did not pay good attention to English speaking customers. A table of Chinese customers appear to get priority service whilst it is half hour wait for English...
“You can tell their handmade noodles by the meaty and springy texture that you'll never get from packaged noodles. Mouthwatering by their red braised eggplants (it's not in the main menu but they stick the sign on the wall as their special menu) and of course their dumplings never go wrong for me. Since the first day my friend took me here, I started to be their regular customer” That was my good feedback for them a year ago but since they move next to the star, the favour is not consistent anymore. I always go for the dumplings, special red braised eggplant and their numbly szechuan pulled beef. Last time the beef was orange coloured and shredded totally different from the original that we had, but 2 days ago i went over for the beef dish again and it was exactly what we originally had, even the special eggplants does lacking something in flavour that I couldn’t explain and they dont serve complimentary tea anymore and too much going on to the menu which make me overwhelmed, suggest to make the menu look more understandable and neat rather than spreading out. However we still glad to see local business getting more supporting and the shop is expanding in...
