I had a wonderful experience at Onyx to celebrate a birthday and farewell occasion. The staff were very friendly, with a warm hospitality. The atmosphere was classy yet cozy. I started the evening with their 🍹Apply Cranberry Zing mocktail ($12) which was refreshing and delicious, with a light tangy-ness to it.
For the entrees, I ordered the Crudo of the day (salmon), Beef Tartare, Battered Cauliflower, Calamari Fritti, and their Truffle Shoestring Fries. 🐟 Crudo ($20), was fresh and tangy, perfect to start the meal. 🥚Beef tartare ($22), was also lovely. 🥦Battered cauliflower ($18), honestly took me by surprised! The cauliflowers were covered in a delicious dressing making it very appetising! 🦑Calamari fritti ($22), smelt so good when they arrived and was chewy and crunchy! Paired well with the accompanying sauce. 🍟Shoestring fries ($26), were great to nibble on whilst waiting for our meals to arrive.
For mains, I shared the Chef's Cut of the Day - Rib Eye (550g) at $99 and their Blue cheese gnocchi at $30, one of their specials of the day.
🥩 The rib eye was cooked perfectly, tender, juice and full of flavour. The side of the vegetables was also a nice touch to cleanse the palette, and the green pepper....had quite the KICK! 🥔 The moment the gnocchi was placed onto my table it just smelt divine! It definitely did not disappoint when it came to taste too, we licked the plate clean!
🍮I finished off with their Creme Brulee ($16), which had the crunchiest layer of burnt sugar on the top, and the creamiest of custard. Would recommend!
Overall the food was delicious! I would recommend dining at Onyx for their great steak. One thing to note, is the pricing is a tad high for some of the menu items. Other than that, I had a great time.

Read moreWe came as a group of five for a birthday dinner on Wednesday night around 6:30pm. The place was very quiet with only one maybe two other tables occupying the restaurant. The staff were polite, but one of the only two servers didn’t write anything down while we ordered, and unfortunately, almost half our order was forgotten. We ended up waiting for most of the ~2.5 hours we were there, and had to follow up at least twice to get the missing food and drinks.
We ordered the focaccia bread, a dozen oysters, steak tartare, bolognese pasta, two 550g rib eye steaks with beef jus, steak chips, and five drinks. The food was actually quite good once it all came out, but the service definitely let the experience down. The bread and chips, which we ordered as starters, took an unusually long time. They only came out at the very end of the meal, even after we reminded the staff twice.
To make matters worse, we were overcharged $20. The menu had the rib eye steaks listed at $99, but we were charged $109. At first we were told it was because of the sauce (which the first server had recommended without mentioning it cost extra), but even then, it should’ve been $105. They did refund us after we raised the issue, but the explanation (apparently the manager changed the prices in their system) was confusing and unconvincing.
The Caucasian server who took our order and did not put it through never returned to our table, did not acknowledge the mistake, and did not apologise. On the other hand, the Asian server, who wasn’t at fault, was really polite and sincerely apologetic. We really appreciated that they offered to waive the drinks, bread and chips for goodwill for the overall very poor experience.
Will not be returning nor recommending this...

From the moment you step inside, the ambiance sets the tone for a delightful evening, with a cozy yet elegant feel, perfect for both intimate dinners and larger gatherings. The food at Onyx Grill is nothing short of spectacular. We started with the bone marrow, served with toasted bread, fresh herbs, and pickled vegetables. The marrow was perfectly roasted, rich and flavorful, complemented wonderfully by the crisp, grilled bread. The oysters, served fresh on ice with a touch of chive and lemon, were exquisite – briny, clean, and a true highlight for seafood lovers. The main course didn’t disappoint either. The steak was cooked to perfection, juicy and tender, accompanied by a delicious side of charred corn and fresh salad. Every dish was presented beautifully, showcasing the care and expertise that goes into the kitchen's creations. What truly elevated the experience was the service.
