When I first started to gain interest in obtaining this woodwind instrument from time immemorial, I soon became overwhelmed by the breadth available online. After browsing through didgeridoos from all corners of the globe, constructed of everything from plastic to fiberglass, bamboo to hemp resins, it became clear various materials could be used in production. Some hours of research later, I decided my best option was an authentic Australian eucalyptus didgeridoo for two key reasons. First I felt an authentic instrument would retain its value and secondly because I read that denser materials excel in sound quality.
I determined that Spirit Gallery would be the merchant to buy from. My decision was based on numerous glowing reviews, the innovative format in which they present their products, and the vast collection they keep in stock. I surely would have chosen a more difficult didgeridoo to learn on had I not inquired with Reno beforehand. He was tremendously helpful in steering me towards the perfect didgeridoo, a Kristian Benton delight in the key of C#/D, that I could easily learn on and one that would keep my interest. After getting the circular breathing down, I found myself playing for an hour almost every day. This newfound hobby was on it's way to becoming an addiction, and my sights were set on a second didgeridoo.
I've had about a month now to settle into my first low key, an A/A# gracefully shaped by Marcos Ferrazza, and I couldn't be more thrilled. I am taken away by the craftsmanship of this masterpiece and the deep distorted grumble it bestows. A mid range key is what I learned on, so this being my first low key took some getting used to. It's easy to see that the lower keys demand more air and precise lip control, which has consequently increased my capacities on my first instrument. Once I adapted to the lower key, playing became a blissful experience.
With the vague description I provided in an inquiry, Reno was able to suggest a handful of optimal didgeridoos out of the plethora he has available. I exchanged a dozen emails or so with him, often receiving a reply within an hour, which would include lengthy reviews of instruments matching the qualities I was seeking, reinforced by his expertise. Reno would go into great detail on each question I had frequently expanding my knowledge about different qualities and capabilities of the didgeridoo. He also furnished padded oil skin bags with each instrument at an unrivaled price.
The wealth of knowledge and dedication to provide extraordinary customer support emanating from Spirit Gallery continues to impress me. Each transaction provided world-class service I was not expecting, including receiving my didgeridoos in central USA, protected like Fabergé, just three days after clicking "buy now." I can not recommend Spirit Gallery enough! It's clear to me they are the supreme dealer of highest quality authentic Australian didgeridoos available anywhere. Reno and his team scour the outback to locate the most immaculate, superbly sounding instruments crafted today. They put an emphasis on professionalism and benevolence. Reno has even checked in on me since my purchases to see how I'm doing! I honestly can't see myself looking anywhere else for future expansions to my collection after the remarkable experience Reno and his team supplied.
Thank you all so...
Read moreFor anyone travelling around Sydney and looking for sound advice when purchasing a didgeridoo, it can be quite daunting. My son and I visited many shops in the rocks area, all selling what seemed like good instruments. We couldn't play ourselves so asked the assistants for advice and for them to play a few didges we liked to see what they sounded like - you would think that is a reasonable request right? Not one could play or advise on maker - nothing! Cue a google search and it became obvious that Spirit Gallery was the only retailer that was worth dealing with. A bit more homework on the various didges (plus being able to hear them played on Spirits's website), and we had narrowed down our choice to a few Crookedstixz didges. When we arrived at the shop we were met by Reno who discussed our choices, the suitability of the didges to our novice level and everything else we needed to know. Reno played the didges for us so we could hear how they sounded before buying - total legend. Great to have that level of enthusiasm about the products they sell but also to make sure the customer gets the right instrument plus the knowledge the instrument is made by a craftsman (and some termites!), not by a factory. We walked away with a concert grade didge that will give us many years of joy for not much more than other retailers sell mechanically hollowed out logs with a fancy paint-job (do you really want to pay $500 for a painted log!??) To top this off, the didge was posted, perfectly packed and delivered back to Ireland to arrive a few days later. I don't review much but if you are thinking of buying a didgeridoo then look no further, Reno is the guy to talk to. Thanks man, so happy we found your shop....
Read moreAs anyone that does a little research on the web will know, there are two didge shops in Australia that stand out. But when you dig a little deeper there is just one, this one.
Spirit Gallery sells a full range of didgeridoos for beginner right through to performance level. It's at this top level where the Spirit Gallery really forges ahead for me.
It's simple all the best makers are represented here, Crookedstixz, Bruce Rogers, Tristan O'Meara, Earl Clements, the list goes on. These are the sort of didges used when people play at the Opera House. Even so the prices are surprisingly good.
I visited Aus at the beginning of the year and my first stop in Sydney was always going to be the Sprit Gallery. I was planning on buying a didge by Crookedstixz, Bruce Rogers, or Tristan O'Meara. Well the choice was almost too much, these didges are just beautiful and sound amazing. Reno helped me narrow it down to two (he's amazingly honest in his assessments of the didges) but I couldn't decide so I bought them both, one Crookedstixz and one Tristan O'Meara. I was travelling for a while longer so Reno held them and posted them on a few days before my arrival in UK. I'm not going to detail the level of service I got after that because I don't want Reno to have to do it for everyone but I'll just say it was outstanding.
If anyone is a bit worried about getting a didge posted from the Spirit Gallery, don't worry you will get a great didge and it will be with you in days.
I was so entranced by the didges when I was there I didn't have a good look at the art on sale but my girlfriend said it was also really excellent.
I'm not surprised, this shop is...
