Never tried the food here since I’m new to the block. Staffs were friendly, but old lady came straight up to me turned down pokie machine volume for it being too loud and for its kept on going giving feature. And she said it was because there were complaints about how I’m being TOO loud. I understand how it can frustrate people when they’re all losing their money and I was the only there winning. But you CANNOT TOUCH others peoples machine without their consent. You simply CAN’T. And there was no way that the volume of the machine had an impact on the neighborhood in any sort of way, and that lady was playing other pokies which were 2 aisle away from me. I’ve had this encounter with other places, such as Eastwood and some pubs in the city, and all of the venue forbids any patrons to do so. So to the management of the place, please, set up some ground rules for the visitors here. Tonight’s episode was insane. It is people’s freedom to do whatever they want with the machines, as long as they don’t try...
Read moreI'm up from Melbourne for the weekend and I'd heard some disappointing stories about much of Sydney's hotel and pub hospitality. This place certainly fitted the description. My 2 girlfriends and i walked into the Royal Oak and i saw the manager look us up and down and whisper into the other bartenders ear. I thought, surely I'm making this up, but as soon as i attempted to order a drink, before I'd even finished my first sentence, i was met with the response "we don't serve you're type here." Now regardless of my heritage and culture, that is never an appropriate response, but I'm a white 35 year old male, a secondary school teacher. If they don't serve my type, who do they serve? I certainly would never recommend this place to anyone, and I've never felt so unwelcome to a city/suburb. Shame on...
Read moreThis is my first visit at the Royal Oak Hotel. I was keen to visit being a local in North Parramatta. Love the ambience of the pub (for this I'd give a 5 out of 5). The staff were reserved but pleasant. I thought I'd order an early dinner. The staff member who served me suggested the curry as it was on special. I thought I'd take her up on her suggestion. I sat for a while enjoying a glass of wine and noticed what looked like my dinner sitting in the kitchen window ready to be delivered to my table. It sat there for over 10 minutes. The place was not busy (as you can see in my photo). By the time my dinner was brought to my table the papadams and rice was cold. The rice was hard - obviously reheated in the microwave. It is a shame that such a beautiful pub served...
