The Bavarian at World Square brings a fun and vibrant taste of Germany right into the heart of Sydney. Whether you're in the mood for a casual catch-up with friends or a hearty meal after a long day, this place is a solid go-to. The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, with long communal tables that encourage a social vibe, much like you’d find at an authentic Bavarian beer hall. The food is exactly what you’d expect—big, bold, and packed with flavour. The menu offers a range of Bavarian classics like schnitzels, sausages, and pretzels, all served in generous portions. The crispy pork knuckle is definitely a standout, with its tender meat and crackling skin. If you're a fan of beer, you're in luck: the selection of German brews on tap is extensive, with something for every taste, from light lagers to rich, dark ales. Service is friendly and efficient, even when it's busy, which can be quite often, especially during peak hours. They also have fun events like Oktoberfest celebrations, where the place really comes to life with music, beer steins, and lively crowds. While it can be a bit noisy at times, it’s all part of the atmosphere. The prices are reasonable considering the portion sizes and the central location. Overall, The Bavarian at World Square is a great spot for anyone looking to enjoy some comfort food, good beer, and a lively environment. Perfect for group outings or even just grabbing a bite and a brew after shopping.

I was in the mood for a vegetarian schnitzel parmigiana like I had enjoyed at Schnitz in Melbourne, and thought that I’d give Bavarian’s confit mushroom a try. Don’t. There was nothing wrong with the crumbed mushroom, it actually would be quite nice when they serve it as a burger as the toppings would tie the flavours and textures well. As a parmigiana, it lacked sufficient sauce and cheese to provide flavour. It came with a large wedge of lemon which would normally be served with a plain wiener schnitzel, not a parmi. The fries served with it were in a crispy coating that was OK, and the tomato sauce I requested was possibly the tastiest part of the meal. The slaw was neither German nor American, just white cabbage with a few shreds of purple cabbage in too much mayo with barely any zing, crunch or flavour. The outdoor patio (heated and partially covered in inclement weather) would be a great place to come after work from 4-6 with mates for some $5 bevvies, accompanied by the 80’s/90’s rock classics at a not obtrusive volume. Price/value comparison: Fair. Table ordering on smartphone or counter ordering available. Staff were friendly and helpful. I might return to try the cauliflower wings another time, but wouldn’t attempt the pizzas with so many incredible pizzerias in Sydney.

MISLEADING SURCHARGE, UNPROFESSIONAL SERVICE AND FALSE ADVERTISING !! Be ware!!! *** Post 1: Recently we celebrated a friends 30th birthday at the Bavarian, World Square (17/12/22). After purchasing our first round of drinks at 5:45pm, I noticed a surcharge on the receipt (pic attached). The bar staff informed me that there was a 1.5% surcharge, and pointed to the footer of the menu (pic attached), where the menu shows there is a 1.5% transaction fee/surcharge. But, after closer inspection I realised that the surcharge was actually 5% of my bill!!!! I queried the bar staff, but they said it was 1.5%. Clearly from my receipt, it is obvious I was charged 5%. I’m not sure about you, but to me this is called ‘FALSE AND MISLEADING INFORMATION’. I am in the process of filing an official complaint with FAIR TRADING NSW and the ACCC. I will keep you posted on my progress here in Google reviews and I will also continue my story about the rest of the issues I had at the Bavarian this night. The story and the struggle continues. I have noticed that many other reviewers have pointed out issues with surcharged at this restaurant chain. I urge all of you to file official complaints with FAIR TRADING NSW!!!!!! Talk soon. Thank you 👋

4 Stars for the bar staff on Friday night who were lovely. Zero stars for security. I can't believe such a place has dropped to such levels, it disgusts me.

We came here just for some drinks and pretzel (which wasn't available) but the apple strudel they recommended was good. We didn't have any main meals so can't judge.

The beers we had were okay and we had a nice time chatting. Unfortunately, the whole experience was marred at the end by the security guard. The closing time of the store listed is 10pm.

He started at 9:20pm, telling us that they close at 9:30pm - Google times states 10pm. We had just ordered full pints of beer and no one at the bar told us they close at 9:30pm. We weren't sculling the beer. At 9:30pm, the security keeps walking past our group and death staring me. 9:40pm, he tells us they are closing at 10pm. Starts trying to grab things off our table. 9:50pm, he says we have to leave because they close at 10pm. I told him politely that we understood but it's not 10pm and still have 10 minutes to finish our drinks. I mean, WE GET IT, YOU CLOSE AT TEN! BUT, let me reiterate, you close at TEN pm! IT ISN'T 10PM!!!

There was a table and another large group at the bar and we didn't see him hassling them. In fact the table behind us had a full meal laid out in front and had just started eating but because we were a small group of three females with two Asians, he decided to target us. Particularly me. Giving me the death stare, hassling me every 10 minutes to leave. Racist? Sexist? Homophobic? Goodness knows.

Let me also paint a picture that we were only sitting and having a chat and we were not tipsy, we weren't rowdy. Just simply having a nice catch up (or TRYING to have a nice catch up).

Management. Your security guard is suppose to make your customers feel SECURE but in actual fact, your security guard belittled me, made us feel uncomfortable and at no point in time secure.

Sadly, The Bavarian had always been our go to for having a nice beer and relaxing but never, ever again.

EDIT: The lovely manager did reach out to us to apologise and we understand that the security is a third party that the restaurant has hired. We have still yet to revisit but we hope the next time we visit it will...

Agree with so many of the reviews here. We arrived at just after opening, the manager agreed to seat us with out warning us it would be a long wait for food. We could see they had work Christmas parties there which would mean added time but not waiting 40 min for meals. We were lucky the barman took orders from us for drinks straight away because they were the only drinks we got. The Manager took the drinks menu's from us after our meals with out even asking if we wanted another drink! We didn't know they were working mostly on QR code for food and we weren't told either so we flagged someone down to take our order eventually. The food was average, I ordered potato salad with mine and it had 4 pieces of potato the rest was sliced cucumber that wasn't pleasant tasting. I understand food shortages but if you can't provide potato salad take it off the menu. The schnitzel was overcooked and dry. The other 3 meals were okay, not particularly tasty but not inedible. The cost of the meals versus what you get is not what it use to be. Being charged a 5% service charge when you can't get service is a joke. The music was ridiculously loud so it was hard to talk. Even worse we stood there waiting to pay being ignored and a waitress had to go to the manager that was ignoring us to get her to complete the payment. She didn't even ask how our meals were! This is the final time we will eat at the Bavarian between the issues in Wollongong with missing meals and being overcharged and now this with World Square you don't deserve to be...

Terrible service. We walked in at 5pm for beers. First of all no one welcomed us and a lot of reserved tables. So we sat down on the table which doesn’t have the reserve sign on. Around 5.30 one of the staff came to us and tell us that we were sitting on the reserve table which is my friend saw that she just put the reserve sigh on the table at the same time that she told us ( By the way we sat on table for 8pax but we’re just 4) . So she said the booking is at 6.30pm we have to leave before that. We’re ok with that. Then at 6pm the customers arrived 30mins earlier than reservation time. The same staff came to us to tell us to leave around 6.10pm because the reservation people arrived. I responded to her that we’ll leave at 6.20pm for sure. Few seconds after that a lady whoever in charge there just walk to us and told us to leave at 6.20 with the worst behaviour i ever seen. I explained to her why we sat on this table, told her the story when we arrived. She said she didn’t think so that we were there at 5pm. She said we’re there since 4pm which we’re still on the way there by that time. Anyway that was the worst experience ever there and i won’t come back there again. I don’t recommend this place. The staff aren’t friendly at all. The service was terrible. Everything is overprice. You guys can find the better place for Friday night. Additional most of staffs don’t have manners at all. Never say excuse me, please etc. you guys even give me the wrong email address...
