So, I popped into Urban Jungle Cafe the other day, lured by the promise of a chicken sandwich and coffee. Let me tell you, it was a bit of a wild ride.
First off, the chicken sandwich. It was like a surprise party where half the guests didn't show up. The veggies were having a good time, and the chicken was decent, though it looked like it just woke up from a nap and needed a bit more warmth. The bread, however, was a party crasher—too soft and not quite fitting in. And the eggs, oh boy. I asked for two fried eggs, thinking they'd be on the sandwich together, but one ended up on the plate like a confused guest who got the wrong address. Why? Who knows! Maybe the chef has a quirky sense of humor.
The coffee was like that friend who's super nice but lacks a bit of oomph. Smooth and creamy, yes, but where was the coffee kick? It was just warm, like a hug from someone who's not that into you. Still, it went down easy.
Now, the service—or should I say, the lack thereof. Picture this: I walk in, and a lady at the coffee station starts yelling and waving her fingers in the air like she's conducting an invisible orchestra. After that, I was left alone, feeling like a ghost. Even though the place wasn't busy, it seemed like the staff had mastered the art of avoiding eye contact and guest interaction. Impressive, but not in a good way.
In the end, I paid $25 for my meal, which isn't terrible, but the whole experience felt like a comedy of errors. I'll be seeking my sandwiches and coffee elsewhere, where the staff at least acknowledges my existence. Urban Jungle Cafe, it was... interesting. Thanks for the memories, but I think I'll pass...
Read morePositives and negatives of this place but can't quite give it 4 stars.
The waitress that served us had poor customer service from when we came in. The place has tables so close to one another you can barely get in and you would be sitting next to strangers at tables side by side. We moved a table so that we wouldn't have to sit super close to other people but the waitress came over and seemed annoyed and pushed the tables back saying we couldn't move them. Rather than providing an alternative for us we moved ourselves to another table. Our table and another both had to wave our hands for service as she was busy talking and laughing with the barrista. Really wasn't happy with the attitude and lack of customer service here.
Secondly, the cappuccino was lukewarm at best and was very weak. While the coffee art was on point, I would've expected the coffee to be of a higher level than what was served. The long black also didn't have the top creamer you get when it is poured water then coffee, in this case it was coffee then water which resulted in the photo.
Although the above element were poor, the food, however, was really delicious. Amazing sauces made for each dish and had a unique taste. Something different for brunch. So great work to the chef! Would recommend coming to just try the food but don't expect too much for...
Read moreI went here today with my partner, had to wait for 5mins and we saw the waitress going around and did not look at us once to give us a table or at least acknowledge us. Another waitress came out afterwards and gave us table. We had to wait for another period of time to get her attention to order food, even though she was going around and surely noticed that we wanted to order but she chose to ignore us. We ordered the Soft shell crab salad and Tom yum shashouka. Dishes came out with no cutlery and that waitress walked off, had to wait for 5mins again until we can get her attention to give us cutlery. The soft shell crab salad was very tasty and had good portion, however, the Tom yum shashouka was such a disappointment. Very expensive dish but taste like canned tomato and we could not taste the tom yum at all. $24 for canned tomato and 1 egg on top, even though the menu says poached EGGS. We generally have good experience with the food here, but that dish is so disappointing and the waitress made the whole experience worse. The whole time we were there, I feel like she’s scared to look up or look around at customers to avoid doing more work. Hopefully this will improve...
