I didn't intend to come here drunk. I had just visited Tribaun and the charming Scottish girl must have recommended some high gravity beers.
I'm not complaining. I'd probably drink anything she told me to drink. Without question.
Back to the point. I arrived here and chose to sit upstairs because the bar allowed smoking. This is where it went wrong.
The gentleman upstairs was definitely unpleased that I showed up without a reservation. This definitely did not look like a fancy restaurant from the outside.
Once I walked up the stairs I still didn't think it was fancy. I mean, they had candles, but nothing else was fancy. Not really. The upholstery is tacky and the napkins are tougher than gas station toilet paper.
I ordered the Cordon Bleu because I was still upset about my visit to the Bierhaus in Salzburg and their incontinence with updating the online menu. I really wanted some Cordon Bleu. It became my mission.
I also ordered the cheapest beer to make it easy to just pay about €20.
The beer was a mistake. It was worse than Budweiser. It was Zillertal Marzen Edel Gereift. I still drank about half of it. Because €2.20. Though I didn't want to projectile vomit out my fourth floor hotel window. After all, it's called Innsbruck, not Outsbruck.
The food arrived after about 25 minutes, but Cordon Bleu takes some time if they make it fresh.
Was it worth the wait? Do you want to know? Is the anticipation killing you?
The waiter brought it out with the wrong side. I had ordered fries, but received potato salad. When I told him, he fixed it. No problem. I won't punish them for that. Mistakes can be made.
In my opinion, there wasn't enough cheese or ham in it and the chicken was a bit dry. Probably because it was treated like a schnitzel instead of a chicken breast.
When he brought the fries, they came with a spoon. A bit odd, but okay. The fries were cooked perfectly. They were hot, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and delicious. Not to mention, plentiful. I attempted to eat them all out of guilt considering he went out of his way to fix my order.
Overall, the Cordon Bleu was flavorless and disappointing. However, the fries were some of the best I've ever had. No kidding. The server did his best to provide hospitality even though I didn't have a reservation. I would definitely return, with a reservation, and try...
Read moreI went to Fischerhausl with my wife and kids this Friday evening based on the great reviews from google and also a mention on the lonely planet book on Austria However, my experience was nothing short of pathetic. As soon as we went there a waiter waved his hand rudely and said sorry we don’t have a table even though there was a table of four that was getting free right there as he gestured us. I went inside the restaurant to enquirer how much time do we have to wait and the manager simply said sorry we don’t have space and minimum waiting time is 40 mins. The thing that made us very upset was the fact that a couple had come after us with no reservation and were welcomed and made to sit on the exact table of 4 that was getting empty while we were told to wait for 45 mins or leave. I also failed to understand whether they had an issue that we would have been the only family with young kids or the fact that we were a non - white family who just wanted to eat dinner at this place. Overall very disappointed with the...
Read moreWe came by for lunch during winter so the tables were not set up outside. The bottom of the restaurant is a bar and the restaurant is at the top of the stairs. We managed to get a booth that fit 5 + a toddler round the back of the restaurant. It was quite busy but the waitress was very helpful and friendly. They had a fairly large selection on their menu and there were descriptions in English. We ordered a few things to share and gave us side plates. The spaetzle here was the best I had. Creamy, cheesy and delicious. The other items were also really good, particularly the Tiroler grostl, a beef and potato hash. This place has really good food and service. The prices also were quite good, most items under 20 Euros. Definitely a nice place to try and it wasn't as busy as the other restaurants closer to the Old...
