We booked a table for Valentines Day dinner with their special menu offer with two starters, a main course and a dessert. The starters were Alpine Prawn Tartare with red lentils and horseradish, red beet arancini and with pumpkin seed oil. We both loved the first starter, the combination of different tastes on the plate was just perfect! 😋 Just the choice of bread could have been better in my opinion. The second starter had just an average taste; nothing special and way below our expectations. Regarding the main course, my husband says the meat was a little bit too dry on his plate. The fish was nice in general but lack of marinade and if baked sweet potato preferred, would have fitted better tastewise in my opinion. Other than food, we ordered two different gin cocktails at the beginning before we start our first course. Both were really good. 👍 Sadly, I cannot say the same about the wine we had with the main course. We were both expecting more characteristic wines for that price 🤷♀️ By the way, drinks are not included in the menu, just fyi. In the end, we preferred to get the dessert as take away and leave earlier than planned. I forgot to make a photo of it sadly but it was not an outstanding taste; just regular chocolate cake, even too sweet and also too dry. I was expecting more moisture inside the cake to be honest. And, they should have cut the cake off the dry edges and not given them to the customers for a special menu in my opinion. All in all, the atmosphere was very beautiful and the waiters were very kind. However, it was not worth paying that much for average food in my opinion. I mean the restaurant can still be preferred to eat in the city but not for special menus 🤷♀️
I preferred the fish and my husband preference was roasted deer as main course. The dessert was savoury chocolate cake with...
Read moreI booked a reservation for this hotel based on its reviews and location - a historic building (literally: a building with so much history) plus a well-reputed restaurant in the heart of old Innsbruck. About 4 km from the airport - technically walkable or easily arrived at via bus. I took a (price-gouging) taxi for 20 Euros.
When I found out the GA is affiliated with Best Western I almost canceled the reservation...I am not a fan of BW in the USA. I am so glad I did not - my stay here, though only a night, has been exactly what I needed after an exhausting trip from the United States.
The room was quiet and so dark at night, even though I didn't draw the shades entirely: mine looked out onto an inner courtyard. The shower, though small, was large enough for two - and the water was hot, with fantastic water pressure.
Last night's dinner at the restaurant downstairs was delicious: I opted for the tradional weinerschnitzel with potato salad...and though it was good, it's the breakfast that really stands out. I always feel ridiculous taking pictures of food, but in addition to last night's weinerschnitzel glamor shot (attached lol) I sneaked a picture of the eggs prepared for breakfast.
The breakfast buffet has eggs prepared as you like (fried, scrambled, omelette), plus ham or bacon or sausage. A variety of fresh fruits (fresh figs! kiwis! pineapple and melon!), cereals for kids, breads and rolls, the traditional Austrian meats and sausages and preserved vegetables, cheeses, pastries...much needed for this tired traveler who normally eschews breakfast. Plus, of course, hot coffee, tea, herbal tea, juices
I am on my way to Kitzbuhel for skiing - but I wish I'd booked another...
Read moreThere couldn't possibly be a more perfect hotel than the Best Western Goldener Adler in Innsbruck.
It's location could not be more ideal. It is set right next to a range of amazing restaurants and 5 minutes walk to most of the main attractions, the Palace, the Hofkirche, etc. This also means it is quick to pop back to your own hotel room to take a break before heading out again.
The rooms are lovely, beautiful modern bathrooms and shower facilities. Working air conditioning which was brilliant in June. Food was also excellent.
But what sets the Goldener Adler apart is the staff. The level of service, friendliness, accommodation and especially their sense of humour made our stay memorable. In particular, Carmen the receptionist was warm, funny and couldn't have done any more for us. A real credit to the hotel.
Service was simply outstanding. Extra pillows? No problem. Jug of fresh milk for a coffee in the room? Absolutely, no charge. Both brought to the room in minutes of the request.
The only slight drawbacks would be a lack of a small fridge in the room and the shaggy carpet in the main bedroom area. A magnet for dirt and dust. If they upgraded this to match the modern flooring in the bathroom, I'd give them 6 stars instead of 5 if it was possible.
Wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else if we return to Innsbruck. Do it. You're worth it. And...
