In some ways, it was beyond 5 stars. The Via ferrata was so stunning and beautiful! In other ways it was miserable. Many of the staff are not friendly. Things are not well explained on the website.

Discounts are advertised, but only apply from the lowest station, not from Hungerberg. There is not clear signage to the gear shop, so we went all the way up and had to go back for gear.

The last cable car goes down at 6 and if you miss it, you’re out of luck. You just have to walk down. (I mean, in fairness, it’s briefly listed on the website, but that wasn’t super clear when planning).

They advertise a 3 hour via ferrata, when most other websites say 4-5 hours.

What I did not find was how much of the hike was not protected by via ferrata and is just free soloing / hiking on exposed mountain top. They just say “be sure footed” 😅.

We all climb 5.11+, so the actual climbing wasn’t terrible. But as mainly single pitch climbers who use safety gear, the time estimate and dangerous nature were not fully clear.

I know people will say we’re just dumb inexperienced Americans, but we each have over 10+ years of climbing experience in many regions, and I would say it felt like Nordkette was just trying to make money off people even if it put...

The cable car is easy to find and board from the city centre and it takes you straight to the top of Nordkette. The mountain was very slippery and quite dangerous underfoot when we went in March due to hotter than usual weather melting the snow. So be prepared for that in-between seasons and bring good footwear. The mountain is great for just visiting as well as skiing/snowboarding in winter but there are definitely better spots nearby for snow sports. The view is stunning 360 and on a clear day you can see all...

Opted to hike up from Hungerburg to Seegrube. Do not trust anyone who says it is an intermediate hike! It takes almost the same path as the cable car, +1040m straight up the steep slope. It is demanding on both cardio and lower body strength. I am a half marathoner and used to hike quite frequent, but this one was really challenging and took me 2 hr 10 mins. Make sure you bring water and plenty of supplies if you're hiking up! You'll be rewarded with stunning views and bragging rights.
