It was a very weird experience having breakfast here. We made reservations but to be honest, I don’t think makes a difference because they don’t reserve the tables. We sat at the table next to the door, I wasn’t a fan because it was cold but the only other option had two small chairs with no back and a small love seat and we were a party of three so we stayed at the corner by door table. We ordered drinks then food, and the man who I believe is the owner said our meals came with drinks, fine. Ordered the three egg dishes with one of them with an additional egg (with coffee/chai drinks) and one of the pancakes. Also I asked for tap water for the table. When the coffees arrived, I see they came with small individual water classes and then one big class of the “ordered” tap water. First came out the pancakes, then minutes after another egg dishes, few minutes later two eggs, and then minutes later the other two egg dishes. I then realized that he misunderstood because now we had three eggs instead of the preferred one extra, fine. It wasn’t easy to get their attention because it was just two of them working and a full house. Fine. The food was decent, nothing crazy to write home about. The coffee drinks were our favorite. The pancakes, didn’t come with honey or syrup which in the menu states it does. I then realized he forgot to ask which I wanted. I asked the woman for syrup to which she returned with it saying here’s your extra syrup. I was thinking, why extra if it states in the menu it comes with one of the two options. When the bill came I was surprised to see that not only was there an extra charge of 1€ for the syrup but that the pancakes were 8.20€ instead of 7,90€ as stated on the menu. I didn’t notice this until after we paid because she didn’t show us the bill beforehand just stated the total. To be honest, we weren’t the happiest with the overall experience so when we gave the card to pay and she asked if we wanted to give a tip, it was a bit odd, if we wanted to tip we would and I would prefer to do it on our own accord. Anyhow we gave 3€ tip. When I noticed these extra two charges, as well as a charge for the tap water being 1,20€ I was annoyed because, since when do you charge for tap? I could go to the bathroom and drink the water there if I wanted to, since all tap in Austria comes from every faucet. It’s not bottled water. When I asked the woman server about the extra pancake charge she was aggressive in telling me I ordered banana pancakes, as I told her, no I didn’t I simply ordered the pancakes which state with honey or syrup with whipped cream and fruit (banana seems to count as fruit). Then she also had no reply as to why the syrup was 1€ extra. When I inquired about the tap water she said, there is nothing for free. I asked to speak to the manager, or the owner, and she came back only with 1€ as retribution. I told her she could have been a little nicer and we left the change. I won’t be coming back and would not recommend if you would like a relaxing and enjoyable morning. It’s a shame as we liked their other location, but it seems this new venue is a bit too much for them to handle and it is not pleasurable to experience.
As well, we asked if they could close the curtains by the entrance since the draft was very cold and this request was also ignored.
Update to review since reply:
It’s clear to see that the restaurant owners cannot kindly take constructive criticism or the peoples opinion about their restaurant if it is anything but excellent. To say I didn’t know what I wanted to order is incorrect, I wanted to order drinks first and then food (as is done in mostly all establishments) and he stopped me by saying that one hot drink is included in the meal. To say I didn’t know what I wanted because it was misunderstood as two eggs instead of the one extra when I said (can I add an extra egg to this one egg dish, is impolite and incorrect. Regarding the water charge, fine, I clearly didn’t see this line item in the menu.

We ordered: 2 Apfelstrudel with cream and 1 Apfelstrudel with strawberry sauce (they said they don't have apple or Vanille sauce), plus 1 espresso macchiato... The entire serving (from first to last dish) took 15 minutes (they should all be brought all once).
They brought 2 Apfelstrudel with cream and 1 brownie with cherries... Plus latte macchiato.. we argued it was but what we have ordered, they took those back and eventually brought the Apfelstrudel without sauce and the espresso macchiato, many many minutes later. Sauce came later, as an additional dish, but was not charged.
The Apfelstrudel was not bad actually. But their attitude is very disturbing. They barely speak few words in German and with a bad pronunciation. English or Spanish would be better, we later noticed (we speak several languages).
Note: In their menu it is written that the desserts are displayed in their refrigerated pastry glass shelf.. we went there, took a look and asked what are the names of one or two desserts until we finally decided to get the Apfelstrudel, and their attitude was again not very customer friendly.. asking for the name of the few displayed desserts was only producing "nein, fertig, finissed, finissed" on their side..
I would not come...
Read moreIt is a shame that Lazarte now owns this traditional and typical Austrian Kaffeehaus. I had to wait 20 minutes to get 1 Einspänner (typically Austrian espresso with whipped cream) even if the place was not crowded at all, simply because the workers have no experience about working in a Kaffeehaus. After 5min the waiter came back to ask what I had ordered, obviously not knowing about this coffee type. This thought was then confirmed by the waiter and the barman searching in some kind of booklet what an Einspänner actually is. After that, the double espresso function didn't work, so they did a simple espresso, put whipped cream on it (which they discovered under the bar just now) and added then a second espresso in the mug. Finally, when I wished to pay by card (at the bar because no waiter would come totm the table) the person who seemed to be the boss yelled at me asking for cash and saying that they lose 2% on each card payment. Very unfriendly person who should have stayed in the successful original Lazarte restaurant and not taking his entire team on this journey. The waiters did their best even under such working conditions, but it is a pity that this beautiful and historical coffee house is now owned by this highly unprofessional, unfriendly and...
