Anker — Restaurant in Vienna

Unbelievably unfriendly staff.

We were here on a Sunday, looking for baguettes. We asked one of the bakers if they had any, to which she responded with a short and rude no. We asked if we could order some for later, as we know from experience that they take a very short time to bake in the oven (my boyfriend's mom used to work there). We were told that if we ordered, we could pick them up the day after. After my boyfriends' mom told them that she used to work there, one of the other bakers (a tall man who said he'd been working there for 20 years) told us that they had baked "today's batch" and there were none left.

We know that baguettes are a must when it comes to Anker, as they're also used for sandwiches and such.

We understand that they were busy, but they should at least be friendly in telling us no. All in all, a terrible experience. Never again.

We later went to the bakery at Karlsplatz, they were much more helpful...

One young employee working at the cashier was neutral (but not kind), while another one on the left corner (where you get your coffee) was very unkind. One can see without doubts that she doesnt love her job, doesnt like to talk, to communicate, to understand, to explain. A young chinese girl asked for a coffee in english. The employee asked very hardly 'bitteeeee schooooooeeeennn!'. The Chinese said again 'coffee please'. Employee: big or small'? Answer: 'small please'. Employee in German in a hard way: Zweiiiiii-Euroooooo-zehnnnnnnn! Other people were waiting on the wrong cashier, most of them foreigners, and she shouted again in German: Weiter kommmennnnnnmn!!!!! Horror place. Your coffee can not get in your stomach, it...

Although they have wonderful coffee and snacks, they need to work on their attitude towards their customers. The young lady on Sunday (08 Aug) morning shift is a disorganised person who threw a tantrum when 2 of my family members ordered coffee and snacks; while I ordered separately through another staff who was an older woman. She jumped at me for ordering through the other lady when she was unable to organise a single bill. If that was the case, she could have made it into two separate bills and I would have obliged. Instead, she expressed her displeasure openly in an absolutely insulting manner.

Definitely a place to miss. I’m sure there are other places that serve great coffee and snacks with better...
