âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸ â A Quirky, Delicious Surprise in the Heart of Vienna
Buffet TrzeĹniewski on Dorotheergasse turned out to be one of the best surprises of my recent Vienna trip. I was traveling with a group of German friends, hopping between cafĂŠs and soaking in the cityâs charm, when we made this unplanned stop â and Iâm so glad we did.
⸝
Food & Drinks:
This spot is all about small bites â open-faced sandwiches with a variety of unique spreads, toppings, and textures. I was encouraged to try a few, and every single one was fresh, flavorful, and totally different from the next. Itâs the kind of food thatâs fun to sample, easy to share, and keeps you coming back for just one more.
Then there are the tiny beers â yes, the famously small âPfiffâ glasses of beer. Not only are they refreshing, but they add a fun and quirky twist to the whole experience. We ended up ordering a few rounds just because theyâre so entertaining.
⸝
Atmosphere:
The location on Dorotheergasse is perfect for people-watching and taking a break from sightseeing. The street seating adds a relaxed charm, and the vibe inside is old-school Viennese casual â no frills, just good food and a fun time. Even though the visit was spontaneous, it ended up being one of the highlights of the day.

Final Thoughts:
Buffet TrzeĹniewski is one of those classic Vienna gems that you might walk past if youâre not paying attention â but donât. Whether youâre with friends, solo, or just need a break between museums and monuments, this place is a must-try. Grab a plate of mini sandwiches, a tiny beer, and enjoy the quirky charm. Easily one of the best stops I...

We've visited there on 7th September after 18:00. Many breads were sold out, but still plenty to choose from. We went for Scandinavian and smoked fish sandwich. Of course two 1/8 litre beer (smallest). You order your bread/sandwich at the display and pay at the counter. If you ordered a beer, you pay it there too and get it to your right where old fashioned looking guy pours it from the draft. The place is usually full, so you can often share a table with some stranger. You can either eat inside or outside. The menu is in German , English and also Japanese. We didn't check for other languages. The waitresses do may look annoyed or cold, but this is a typical Austrian and German attitude - not really bad, that is just a misunderstanding. They are polite and serve you well. Even although they have lots of explaining to do.
Trust me, I'm sensitive about service and generally poor service level in Europe and especially Czech. But this place is nowhere near bad. Do not let the bad reviews...

We tried: (in order of preference)
Black Truffle, Egg, and Ham â Rich and savory, with the truffle adding a nice twist. Onion-Pickled Herring â Tangy and bold, a standout for fish lovers. Smoked Salmon with Cream Cheese and Horseradish â Creamy and zesty, a classic done well. Beef with Horseradish and Pickles â Hearty and flavorful, with a good crunch from the pickles. Tip: The bread is cold and untoastedâfirm but pairs great with the interesting, flavorful toppings. Itâs a unique, light lunch option while strolling around!
This place feels like a local favorite and a solid pick for tourists. The unique flavors made it an overall great experienceâIâd...
