My partner and I had the 5 course menu. The service was excellent. I had a request in my booking and we had a few smaller requests during the evening, all of which were promptly taken care of very professionally. The two waiters we had were very kind and attentive. The only thing I could mention, if i was very critical, was that I did not receive any notification beforehand wether or not my request on the booking was possible or not.
The food was very good. A few dishes stood out way more than others. Ironically the bread was one of my favorites although that was just an appetizer and not part of the 5 course meal. Overall all courses, but the dessert were delicious. The dessert was a bit disappointing in the taste, considering that its the course you finish on you would expect it to be the best or on par with the rest. In our opinion it was worth the price and a tasty experience, generally speaking.
The ambience there is great. It all feels very cozy. The air conditioner has a refreshing temperature, but not too cold. The lights are warm and maybe a little bit too dim, but overall feel comforting. The interior design is beautiful and the table placement allowed for a private feeling.
There was one very unpleasent experience, which destroyed the ambience for us towards the end. A couple with a toddler at around 9pm took a table in the same room. The toddler kept repeatedly screaming and making other irritating and loud noises, which is of course very annoying. I do not understand why someone would take their newborn to a high class restaurant. In my opinion babys have no place in such a restaurant and I would have liked for them to either get a seperate emtpy room or for the restaurant to simply not allow newborns as guests so they dont disturb the others.
Aside the last unlucky note, overall a very pleasent and...
Read moreI’m surprised this place isn’t Michelin (or maybe it is soon to be?). If not, it certainly deserves it - the food here is incredible — on par with some of the best Michelin places I’ve been to.
Tucked away in a quaint cozy courtyard, Buxbaum is an excellent place to retreat from all the crowds, while giving you that local vibe. The atmosphere is super relaxing and the service is quick and attentive.
On my last day in Vienna, I wanted to end it a high note. The last few days I’ve been consuming my body weight in schnitzel… so was really hoping to get a change of scenery. Buxbaum not only met my expectations but also exceeded it! The food here was spectacular. I got two of the dishes from the prefix menu and then added a separate main course (see pictures, I forget the name). Both of the prefix courses were unique and fresh. The first one was a smoked fish in some type of pickled sauce (delicious) and the second was a stuffed vegetable with some kind of grain/couscous (also delicious). Lastly, I got the Gilthead fish, which was cooked to perfection. A nice crispy outer skin and a soft and juicy white fillet.
It is a bit pricey relative to other places, but you get what you pay for. It’s definitely worth the cost. 5/5 - will come...
Read moreJust experienced a rather delightful meal at Buxbaum in Vienna. It has the understated charm of a genuine discovery, the kind of place that feels like a well-kept secret.
The service was notably polished. The waiting staff were attentive and, impressively, quite knowledgeable about the menu and the provenance of the dishes. It’s always a pleasure to encounter a team with such a clear understanding and enthusiasm for what they serve.
The wine list was also a highlight, particularly the selection of Austrian Rieslings. There was a considered variety, indicating a thoughtful approach to their cellar.
However, the true testament to Buxbaum’s quality was the “Girardi Rostbraten”. Cooked medium fried as requested, it was executed with precision. The quality of the beef was evident, and the cooking allowed its natural flavour to shine. It was, in short, a superb dish, demonstrating a confident and skilled kitchen.
Buxbaum offers a refined yet relaxed dining experience. The combination of attentive, informed service, a well-curated wine list, and genuinely excellent cooking makes it a restaurant well worth seeking out in Vienna. It’s the sort of place that leaves you feeling thoroughly satisfied and appreciative of a...
