If you want to experience a taste of history and authenticity, Figlmüller Wollzeile is an absolute must-visit! Open since 1905, this spot offers an experience that transports you back in time to old Vienna. The iconic schnitzel here is nothing short of legendary—it’s pounded to perfection, delicately thin, and coated in a golden, crispy breadcrumb that gives the dish an irresistible crunch. And it’s huge! The schnitzel hangs over the plate, making for a feast that’s as visually impressive as it is delicious.
Alongside the schnitzel, the potato salad is a classic choice that pairs beautifully, offering a rich, tangy flavor that complements the meat perfectly. If you want variety, the mixed salad is also fantastic, combining potatoes, carrots, cucumber, cabbage, and greens for a fresh, satisfying side.
One charming touch is their tradition of offering paper and a bag for any leftovers. This means you can savor that unforgettable schnitzel later if you can’t finish it all in one go!
Do note that Figlmüller Wollzeile is a traditional establishment. They don’t serve beer or fries with the schnitzel, so if you’re looking for more modern pairings, their sister location, Figlmüller Bäckstrasse, might be better suited for you. However, in terms of quality, Wollzeile stands out with its classic schnitzel taste.
The atmosphere here is pure Viennese, with a cozy, rustic feel that enhances the overall experience. Service is friendly and efficient, though the staff may not hover, which keeps with the classic, laid-back vibe. The restaurant itself is clean and welcoming, but it’s the food that truly takes center stage.
For authentic Austrian cuisine and a memorable culinary journey, Figlmüller Wollzeile is iconic for good reason. Highly...
Read moreOne of the most popular restaurants in Vienna. It can be said to be the right choice especially for Schnitzel. There are varieties of Chicken-Veal and Pork Schnitzel. The boiled veal with vegetables and soup was very delicious. We came just in time for the Asparagus season and ordered that too. Recommended. The portioning was quite sufficient and even large. The potato salad that came with the main course was perfect in my opinion. The butter and sourdough bread were also very delicious. Although it is known as a single restaurant, there are actually 2 restaurants 50 meters apart. One is a single-storey restaurant on a side street reserved for those who come with reservations only, the other is a 3-storey main restaurant on the street that has a line 90% of the time and you have to wait in line to enter. If you are willing to wait in line, you can go without a reservation. The waiters are very polite but I can't say the same for the people I asked at the cash register. Also, although I counted at least 6 empty tables on the upper floor of the restaurant and these tables were empty for a long time, no one took the people waiting in line downstairs. So this situation is not managed well. However, if there was a doorman and two people with walkie-talkies who controlled the places inside and informed, people would not wait in long lines and the restaurant could fill more tables, increasing customer profitability and table occupancy rate. But despite everything, the flavors we tasted...
Read moreI was fortunate enough to score a reservation here the night before I planned to go. Reservations are recommended because lines/queue form early. I came here to try their famous schnitzel. It was absolutely delicious! They give you a lemon wedge on it, squeeze that on it, the lemon adds such a brightness it cuts through the grease. It brightened it up wonderfully. The schnitzel itself was perfectly tender with a nice crisp breading served hot. I ordered the recommended sides with it, the potato salad and fresh greens. The potato salad is a traditional cold salad in a vinaigrette-like dressing. It was delicious, I didn’t think I’d find it too interesting, but it was honestly very tasty and went well with the schnitzel. The greens were a fresh leaf salad green. I’m still not sure exactly which kind they are, or if we have them back home but I’d look for them, they were delicious. The schnitzel is very large and even though it’s thin, as schnitzel should be, I couldn’t finish it. They give you wax paper and a bag to bring home your leftover schnitzel. I made a lovely sandwich with it for my dinner. The interior has lovely woodwork designs. There is a bathroom but it’s on the outside. They give you a key for it and it’s immaculate, they take perfect care inside and out. They take card here and cash. Most of the places have accepted cards, which they can insert the chip or tap to pay, so I’ve been using 🍎 pay all around, even at Christmas...
