We came with 8 people and sat at 2 tables. The staff though that we were 2 separate groups and came to out table fist. While ordering out of the 5 peope at our table only 2 of us wanted to order a coffee. Upon hearing the horrible crime they told us that this is a Cafe and we need to order, with a very condescending tone, this was enough to force shy female friend to order something to avoid any uncomfortable situation, also while we were odering one of us forgot what they wanted to order because of the longer than expected wait time and needed to look at the menu. In response, also with a very condescending tone, she told us to start the order. For some added context we were a group of 22 year old tourists from an other country, so we have never been to this kind of place before, but I still don't think that we deserved this kind of treatment. In the end we got a receipt where along with the 3 drink we ordered 2 other items were listed with a 0 Eur charge, which seemed a bit weird to me. At the other table all 3 people ordered something but only 2 people got their order brough out. It was an overall bad and confusing experience, where we felt that we were looked down upon and were made to feel like we must order something. Also the coffee which was almost 5 Euros was mediocre at best and a very small amount for that much money. This isn't a Starbucks to sell...
Read moreWe were on the tourist trail through Vienna city centre when an overwhelming need for coffee and cake hit. Using Google Maps to find cafe's in the vicinity it identified the Dorotheum as only 50m away. Standing in front of the large and beautiful building there was no sign of a cafe but it did have Dorotheum in big letters over the entrance. So pressing on we found ourselves in a large gallery with an imposing stone staircase spiralling upwards. On the 2nd floor we spotted tables through a glass screen and entered an oasis of calm with a coffee bar at one end and a display of cakes at the other. Instantly a waiter was at hand guiding us through the mesmerising selection of coffees many of which had lashings of whipped cream floating on the surface. The strudel and layer cake were fine but not out of the ordinary. What makes this place special is it is quiet and refined and as a bonus you can look at art on the way out. If only the prices were a little less painful. Well worth searching for this place if you don't...
Read moreI really did enjoy the hot chocolate and some, bitter one. It was outstandingly delicious compared to the rest of other cafes. BUT!!! What put us off the most was the dark-haired plus-size waitress who showed impolite attitude towards us from the beginning. Once we were seated and looking at the menu, my mum and I would like to go to the toilet. We couldn’t find the signages at all so we came up to the cashier, where that lady was, we were about to speak but she stopped us and said with a very aggressive tone “we will come to the table!” So I raised my voice also and said “no no where is the toilet please” that lady and another lady gestured to the back of the cafe. It was very rude, to be honest. We never understood why people in Europe were so grumpy all the time. They seemed to hate their unhappy lives so much it perplexed us. The lady who served our table, however, was all...
