Lupetto Bar italiano — Restaurant in Vienna

What a hidden gem! We were staying in the area and knew we had to try this place for ourselves after reading some reviews. We were not disappointed! It has been a long time since we have had such fresh and delicious Italian food. I will dream of the bruschetta. It is such a simple dish, but every part of it was perfect- texture of the bread, the garlic and balsamic and olive oil, the fresh tomatoes (literally plucked a cluster of tomatoes on the vine from a bowl on the counter), and some ricotta salata to add to a bite as you go along for even more flavour. Yes, we ate all 8 portions between the two of us. Then on to the gnocchi with speck and mushroom and the sausage and ricotta stuffed agnolotti with a shared tiramisu to finish us off. Both the house red and white wines were delicious and as noted in other reviews, the owner was charming and his wife (I believe he told us it was his wife?) was working hard in that little kitchen churning out deliciousness. Became one of my favorite restaurants in Vienna. The server (which I’m assuming was also the owner) is one of the loveliest persons I’ve ever encountered in the gastronomy industry in Vienna. We came to Lupetto with high hopes but we left disappointed. The owner is very kind and friendly and the prices are quite affordable, for huge portions. There is room to improve the pasta. Finer techniques and ingredients are needed. It's not authentic good quality italian — but you get a big portion of warm food. Lupetto could have a lot of potential otherwise. Keep trying.
